2013 RAV4 How-To: Smart Key | Toyota

(dramatic tones) – If your RAV4 is
equipped with a Smart Key, you’ll find that locking, unlocking, and starting your vehicle
can be a lot easier than with mechanical keys. To unlock the doors, first make sure you have the Smart Key fob with you. It’s not necessary to
have it in your hand. Slip your fingers behind one
of the front door handles, making sure they touch the inside. The door will unlock automatically. (beeping) You’ll hear a beep, and the
courtesy light will illuminate. To lock the doors, touch the two grooves on either side of the front door handle. All the doors will lock. If you hear a constant warning sound, it probably means you’ve
left the Smart Key fob in the car and it won’t lock. If you only need to
open the rear lift gate, first make sure you have the Smart Key. Then, reach up under the Toyota logo just above the license plate and push the rectangular release button. (beeping) To lock the lift gate,
press the round button just to the right of the
rectangular release button. (beeping) The Smart Key fob includes
a traditional remote with lock, unlock, and
emergency signal buttons that you can use, as well. It also has a mechanical
key, should you need it. Different things, like
strong radio signals, low batteries, and leaving the car parked and locked for more than 14 days can all affect the way the
Smart Key system works. See your owner’s manual for details. (light music)
