What’s going on YouTube? By this point the expected family vehicle is now a compact crossover instead of a midsize sedan Which is why we’re spending this freezing cold day with one of the most popular options the newly refreshed 2020 Honda CRV Of course we would like to take a moment to especially thank our friends at gates Honda for giving us access to the CRV and if you’re in the market for any new Honda Make sure you stop by their dealership or visit them via their website, which we provided a link to in the video description So with that all said, let’s see what’s changed from one of America’s top selling vehicles So as always starting off with the exterior the front here is probably the most obvious update this year While it’s not exactly a night and day difference. They have changed the chrome bars in the grille to look more aggressive this year and Then the lower fascia is also now all black with a new silver accent that runs through it However, as far as the headlights are concerned they carry over this year unchanged that means the LX through the EXL has this set up with the main lights being Halogen, but LED turn signals and daytime running lights the touring will instead have a fully LED setup and the fog lights across all the trims have been upgraded to LEDs for 2020 Now as far as all the rest of the styling there have been some updates though less than what they’ve done to the front Across the lineup the tail light lenses have been smoked all models get the silver accent across the back Plus if you go from the loaded touring model, it will now have dual horizontal exhaust outlets instead of the previous circular outlets So all in all while the 2020 changes aren’t massively different to my eye they definitely make things look more upscale and modern Now we have not mentioned the wheels yet which are also new this year both e.x and EXL share these cool-looking 18-inch alloys and the touring now gets its own design for 2020 and is up sized to 19 inches Even the LX will come with 17 inch contrast alloys Coming up to the mirrors, they are body colored heated and have blind spot monitoring on all but the LX Now perhaps one of the most important changes for a family vehicle is that Honda is now including their entire safety suite standard across all the trim levels So now even the LX has the likes of forward emergency braking Lane Keeping Assist adaptive cruise control and Auto high beam headlights These are features that a lot of the rivals still reserved for only their upper end trim lows But anyways guys that sums up everything that’s new with the CRV on the outside So now let’s see what’s changed with the interior So on the CRV Honda does nicely include their smart entry system Standard on all but the LX trim and with that they also include the remove start system Now, of course to get inside the vehicle it does have a sensor behind the handle like all hondas All right, so taking a look here inside the 2020 CRV Um, you know like is typical with Honda’s the refresh doesn’t change a whole bunch of the design But they did update a lot of details that will point out as we go through the review Now as far as your color and material options Honda continues to keep it very simple here So for your LX and your EX? which will have is cloth seating in black grey or ivory and then when you go for the EXL or the Touring you have leather like we see here and in those same three colors Now turning over here to your door trim it continues to be nicely appointed Even your lower in models come with the leatherette that comes all through the door trim with the very nice double stitching detail This is faux wood, but it looks very realistic. And then we do have a padded plastic list of more stitching across the top part as far as your windows is one touch automatic for the driver and the passenger and Then on both the EXL and touring you’ll find two person memory seating Carrying over from last year you continue to have a 12 way power adjusting seat on all but the base LX Which is very nice since most of the rivals don’t include more than eight ways of adjustment and Then I’ve commented on this and past CRV reviews But the seat does carry over unchanged very aesthetically pleasing and the leather feels high-quality So, like I said, the main parts of the design have not changed this year And neither have the high quality materials. So across your entire upper dash here you do. Have a nice soft touch plastic Dropping down here in the middle part. You have kind of a leatherette material with stitching and then this little piano black accent Below that we have some more of the faux wood And then all of our lower areas here, they are hard touch. However, everything is very high quality and fits together and a really well Not all that the LX press the button to start No over here at your gauges, you’ll continue to have the reconfigurable digital setup this is across all the trim levels and You can just press this little button on the steering wheel labeled with the eye and you can cycle through a whole range of information Including things regarding your all-wheel-drive system safety systems Various things like that. So it’s definitely a very nice setup Then coming back to the steering wheel itself It is electric power assisted and the wheel is leather wrapped when you go for the EXL or the Touring model You would also have rain sensing wipers if you went for the Touring model and the steering wheel itself is always manually tilt and telescoping Now one of our 2020 changes impacts the touring model that now comes with a heated steering wheel That’s something a lot of people were, you know complaining about in previous versions of the CRV So you now have a heated steering wheel if you go for the Touring just like the Canadians already had Now as far as our other major 2020 change here that’s going to be a fully redesigned center console area Now what they’ve done Is just kind of adjusted the way this is laid out. So you’ll notice you have all this space here and It goes to here and it is a flat surface, but you can slow this pack And you’ll notice this drops down here and we have a really deep area to stick things This also can flip up right and then we have if all of this area here totally unobscured To stick something and stack it up so if you see this is incredibly versatile a lot of different ways that you can arrange this and As far as the size, this is at least double what most the competitors have This does adjust as well We have two cupholders in the front just like we did last year and this little storage area But one of the updates is that the USB ports are now up here in the front. This used to be a 12-volt outlet They switch positions now so just something to keep in mind and this would be a wireless phone charging pad if you go for the Touring model and that’s new for 2020 Now one of the reasons Honda can give you so much storage is because they kind of mounted this shifter what I call minivan style This is the same as last year. So you just reach up here. Obviously, you put it in a drive sport or low And then we go into reverse you will find a standard backup camera This is included across all the models as you can see we have active trajectory as well as three different angles we can choose between And then you also have your electronic parking brake and auto brake hold function Now moving on up to your climate controls They do retain the same layout as last year meaning you’ve got single zone automatic on the LX and dual zone automatic on all the rests It also retains the same button layout here. So you have physical controls for most of the stuff However, some of your other features are going to be located by clicking climate and that’s for example where you can change your zones Additional on EX and up also includes three safety two seats, which is definitely nice for that price point And then heading up to our audio system Honda gives you basically a different number of speakers for every single trim level So you’re looking at 4 on the LX 6 on the ex EXL 8 and touring 9 Obviously this being the EXL means we have 8 speakers. So let’s go ahead and take a sample of Some quality of this system is decent though. It’s definitely not one of them among the best in the class All right, so now we’re up here at our Honda link system this is the Seven-inch display. This is what most of the models have but there is a smaller 5-inch display if you go for the LX trim Now for 2020 Honda has opted not to change the software so you actually still have the older-style software as you can see As far as the functionality is pretty much the same It’s just that he has older style graphics Now as far as important features to point out you do have both Android auto and apple carplay Those are standard on all the models that have this 7-inch display So all that the base model and then if you want integrated navigation, you’ll have to go for the touring only but anyways that’s all I’m going to talk about with this system as Always if you want to learn more information about the Honda link system, you can click the link to our dedicated video in the description Now moving on up here we do have an auto dimming mirror on the EXL and the touring trims and They’re your home like universal remotes right there We also have power moonroof Just like in the previous model year Honda has nicely included this on all but the very base model, so that’s certainly nice But there is not a panoramic option available But anyways guys that is going to conclude all the changes up here in the front of the cabin So now I’ll go ahead and hand it off to my brother Mason who will check out the back areas No turning and checking out the rear door trim of the refreshed CRV, it’s going to stay mostly the same So we do have this really nice leather portion all the way through here as well as down your armrest However, the one difference from the front is that this is a hard touch as opposed to the soft touch Now down below that we do have a bottle holder as well as some storage beside that And of course in terms of features Honda does fix you up pretty nicely on this EXL trim So we do have rear vents which are actually standard across all of the CRV trim levels and then looking down here We also have two smart charging USB ports, which are standard on the EX trims and higher Do also want to point out that heated rear seats are not available unlike uh, some of the newer competition And turning over we do still have a leather wrapped armrest with cupholders inside And up top you have an assist grip and some Lightning Now of course this wouldn’t be a Honda if space wasn’t a priority and that definitely is the case here in the CRV is Technically rated at 40 inches of rear legroom and 39 inches of rear headroom, which places it above most of the competition It’s actually around 3 inches larger than the Toyota rav4 And Nissan Rogue, so that’s his main competitors and you’ve definitely got to feel that Behind drew seating position I have about I don’t even know probably at least a foot of space Between my knees and the seat back and my feet can easily slide up underneath of there So I’m extremely comfortable back here. And this is definitely going to be one of if not the most spacious offerings in this class Now of course looking at the seats themselves they do fold 60/40 split so just grab this little handle and they do fold right down Not coming around to the tailgate of the CRV it is power on the EXL and touring trims However, only the touring will have the hands-free function And once you open it up you are going to be once again Very pleasantly surprised by the amount of space that the CRV offers It has 39 cubic feet of space behind the second row seats and that expands to 76 cubic feet with the seats folded That is a lot larger than most of the rivals to be exact us around 10 cubic feet larger than most of the competition And you’re definitely going to benefit from all that space back here And in addition to that Honda has made it finished very nicely. So I do have a cargo cover right here Now you have your handles to fold the seats crap seat backs as you can see you can do that just with a touch of a button and underneath of the floor here We do have a spare tire Over here on the passenger seat is power adjusting on the EXL trims and touring You know front of the passenger you will find a really good-sized glovebox is also dampened and Up top we do have a Sun Visor with a light mirror and it does also detach as well as extended But anyway guys we’ve seen that the CRV definitely shines in terms of rear space and comfort but now let’s go ahead and take it Out on the road and see how it performs there compared to its rivals All right, so taking off in the 2020 CRV As far as for most of the trim levels it is the same driving experience as you had in 2019 but There is one notable change and that is that the LX Has gotten rid of the bass naturally aspirated engine and now all of the models are going to come with What we have here, which is our 1.5 liter turbo four-cylinder producing 190 horsepower 179 pound-feet of torque so that so of course, you know now that means the LX is Getting the benefits which include, you know having the same power more torque And also a better fuel economy And also this engine is like super refined And we’d never drove the base LX CRV, but this 1.5 liter turbo It’d be harder to be more refined than this. So you’re definitely going to get a big step up and refinement for this LX CRV As far as the actual acceleration itself I would say it’s not bad. It’s you know it I would say it’s the best in the class, of course, you know Some of the rivals have up level engines. I’m not even I’m not talking about that But I would say it feels a little bit slower than for instance the rav4 but quite a bit faster than the rogue Those are of course the things that people most often cross shop with this CRV But like Mason saying Honda delivers you that speed in a way that’s much much quieter much more refined than the main rivals It really does create a much more I don’t know it feels the more upscale to me When you don’t when you push the accelerator who doesn’t You know kind of like the wrath floor does Yeah, once you get up to speed there’s virtually no engine noise at all It really it’s very quiet overall as a package You know, there’s just very little road noise very little wind noise You know and that’s the CRV strong suit is that this car is built for the family This is gonna be a car that 9 out of 10 people They have kids that write in the back and you know, they just really want a comfortable riding car that’s quiet and refined and Hunted really nails it and they have known in the past and they continue to nail it for this 2020 CRV it really is just a fantastic riding vehicle and the families will definitely appreciate That when you get inside of this car I just activated the support mode You know just like in past series It doesn’t make much of a difference but you know it is there may be a little bit more aggressive on the throttle tip in but otherwise Probably won’t be able to tell difference. That’s pretty much typical for the class We haven’t mentioned the transmission up into this point as far as you can probably tell is a continuously variable transmission that standard equipment on every single trim level, you know Honda What they do basically is just make a really good CVT But they don’t bother with any of the tricks or anything so it doesn’t simulate gear ships It’s not going to make you think it’s anything except a CVT But like I said, they do a very good job at making it CVT kind of blend into the background You know, so even when you’re heavy on the throttle you avoid things like heavy droning And it’s just very responsive you’re not ever waiting on it to start making things happen And I’d really say for the average driver of something in this class I’d really say that you wouldn’t notice the difference too much over a regular transmission Now more important than the driving dynamics where the transmission is going to be the fuel economy Since that is going to matter to every single one of you And it does it comes in really good for the class as you would expect So for the front wheel drive model that’s going to come in at 28 City 34 highway 30 combined and then the all-wheel drive is going to come in at 27 city 32 highway 29 component That’s an improvement of 2 mpg combined for the LX trim. So if you’re going for that base model, that’s definitely something to consider 2 mpg improvement as well as the better engine and is still gain 6 horsepower over top of that. So that’s really quite nice for the base model We all know the best way to sum up the CRV is driving dynamics is simply Pleasant You know, it always has been just a very pleasant Family vehicle that’s going to keep you and your family and complete comfort, you know And it just really nails the things that a family are looking for when it comes to you know You have just a insane amount of storage space. It’s quiet. It’s comfortable. It’s fuel-efficient. It’s affordable You know, it’s really hard to come up with bad things to say about the CRV All righty now, let’s go ahead and talk about the pricing for this 2020 refresh Honda really hasn’t raised the price very much So we’re looking at it between 200 and 400 dollars across most of the trims besides for the LX, which is a $600 increase Because of a few different things like new engine and safety system however For the new base price of the LX that’s going to start at twenty five thousand and fifty bucks the X is twenty seven thousand five sixty the EXL which is what we have here is thirty thousand and fifty and Then finally you have the Touring model which starts at? 33,000 at two hundred fifty dollars and Then if you want to add all-wheel-drive to any of those trims as I mentioned that’s going to be an additional fifteen hundred bucks Now as you know by now Honda does not really do option so we have the EXL all-wheel drive and then add in the destination charge of 1095 bucks This particular model comes in a thirty two thousand six hundred and forty five Which is you know, I’m just gonna say it again. I’ve said it in past CRV reviews This is a really great value for this segment of vehicle The prices really have gone up in this segment and the Honda CRV has pretty much stayed the same and you are getting a lot of equipment for that base like $32,000 price point and you’re not going to get that in stuff like the rav4 Well guys we wound up watching one of the first in-depth looks at the Refresh 2020 Honda CRV EXL We really appreciate you watching and we’ll catch you next time. There’s a sample more of the latest automotive delicacies!
