I was watching our first test.
This car made us happy. Its ingredients make it a fun car. I won’t say that the BMW 1 Series
is the best-looking car. That’s why this model was facelifted quickly. More people weren’t convinced by its looks. If a facelift is minimal, the model is successful
and it doesn’t need big adjustments. If there are big adjustments, it’s for a reason. This is a nice combination:
a classic BMW straight-6 with turbo. That’s not a bad thing nowadays. Rear-wheel drive and xDrive AWD is optional. Most German cars have xDrive,
which is logical with their weather. We criticized the differential lock. It doesn’t
have one, but it does something with the brakes. It’s a cheap copy of the thing
you want as a sporty driver. However, there are aftermarket solutions.
At the BMW dealer itself, for example. The M Performance differential lock solves
the problem, but there are other fixes. When you want optimal traction,
you’ll need xDrive AWD. It has 5 or 3 doors and a manual
or automatic transmission. The 8-speed automatic transmission is nice. Not the DCT, which you’d expect with a sportier
BMW, but a traditional automatic transmission. The 3.0 straight-6 offered 316 hp at first.
6 hp was added later. The M135i was succeeded by the M140i in 2016. That one has 335 hp, but that’s a different engine. It’s not within the scope of this video,
although some things are still applicable. The car is too new to have
real things to watch out for. ENGINES
gasoline Not many M135i are for sale on Marktplaats. That’s because it was an expensive car in
the Netherlands. People chose a different car. Only a handful are for sale on Marktplaats. Prices range from 30,000 to 50,000 euros. 50,000 euros buys you a very young
low-mileage car. Keep an eye on what’s for sale;
not many come along. If you want a specific M135i,
more are for sale in Germany. New cars are put online every day.
You can find them on Mobile.de, for example. PRICES
minimum, maximum There are a number of things to watch out for. A nice one is rust under the seat frames. Underneath here. The first
model years had this problem. Of course, it’s only cosmetical in the beginning.
Look under the seat to see if it has this problem. A sporty car like this is more susceptible
to damage than the more modal cars. Check if the colors and body panels match. Tires and brakes wear faster in a more potent car. Speaking of tires, the front tires
can wear fast on the outside. Check this. This type of car
shouldn’t have budget tires. If it’s a weird brand, Google it. If it’s a cheap tire, this says
much about the previous owner. I would walk away. About the rims: standard rims
are sensitive to damage. They can be dented and no longer round. We don’t have many potholes in the Netherlands,
but they damage these rims fairly quickly. The powertrain: there can be problems
with the automatic transmission. “You don’t need to flush.”
You know this from our videos. However, ZF says a flush can be beneficial,
just like an oil change and other cleaning methods. The ZF transmission can have problems.
It produces a whining sound. This sometimes starts with reverse only.
It’s like the police is coming, but more quiet. That’s bad and can only be solved
by replacing the transmission. That won’t make you happy. A general thing about direct injection engines:
the cylinder head can get dirty. You’ll encounter a number of symptoms. The exhaust tips will turn black,
a loss of power, and it burns oil. What can you do? Clean the inlet. The best method is walnut blasting. Walnut shells are blasted into the engine. This is done better than I tell it now, but this
cleans it and the car will have full power again. Another thing: if it burns much oil,
the first thing to check is the carter ventilation. It breaks relatively often. The valve isn’t
expensive to replace, but it burns more oil. That’s something you can fix. Another annoying thing that happens with 2014 cars
is power loss when the vents start to cool. It’ll go into limp mode and won’t give you power. The car thinks it’s overheating
because the vent module has an error. This doesn’t happen every time, but randomly. If it happens, pay attention,
because it can happen at the wrong moment. For example, when you want
to merge in front of a truck. We found this car at De Beier in Heerenveen. It’s white with a manual transmission
and rear-wheel drive. The sport seats are standard with the M135i. It’s exactly like I’d want it. That’s why I bought it. THIS CAR If you’re looking for a second-hand car and want
