Bus driver refuses to drive kids home due to noise

THEY WILL TALK. LET THEM TALK. JUST SIT THERE AND HOLD THEM AT A SCHOOL FOR 45 EXTRA MINUTES BECAUSE YOU CAN’T HANDLE A CONVERSATION BETWEEN KIDS ON A BUS, IT’S NOT ACCEPTABLE. A GREENVILLE SCHOOL BUS RUNNING AN HOUR BEHIND. MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS FORCED TO WAIT LONGER BECAUSE THE DRIVER REFUSED TO GO ANYWHERE WHILE THE KIDS WERE MAKING NOISE. ADDIE HAMPTON IS STANDING BY LIVE FROM GREENVILLE MIDDLE SCHOOL. SOME PARENTS SAY THE DRIVER HANDLED IT WRONG. THE DISTRICT IS BACKING THE BUS DRIVER. Reporter: YEAH, DIANE, THE DISTRICT IS BACKING THE BUS DRIVER. THEY SAY DRIVERS DON’T HAVE TO GO ANYWHERE IF CONDITIONS ARE UNSAFE, EVEN IF THAT MEANS WAITING FOR 45 MINUTES. THEY DO ADMIT THAT TENSIONS ARE HIGH WITH EVERYONE BECAUSE OF A DRIVER SHORTAGE. DRIVERS ARE BE OFTEN HAVING TO DOUBLE, TRIPLE AND QUADRUPLE ROUTES. I WAS ASKED TO COME AND HELP GET YOU HOME. BUT BECAUSE YOU ALL CHOOSE TO MAKE ALL THIS NOISE, I DON’T DRIVE A BUS WITH ALL THIS NOISE. Reporter: THIS VIDEO TAKEN BY JEN BUTLER’S 13-YEAR-OLD SHOWS STUDENTS SITTING ON A BUS THERE TO PICK THEM UP AFTER THE NORMAL BUS WAS MORE THAN AN HOUR LATE. BECAUSE THERE WAS TOO MUCH NOISE, THEY WAITED 45 MINUTES. SHE DIDN’T GET HOME UNTIL EARLY 6:00 P.M. Reporter: WHAT HAPPENED DURING THE TIME THEY SAT THAT SCARES AND ANGERS BUTLER. AT ONE POINT AN ANGRY FATHER SHOWS UP WANTING HIS KID OFF THE BUS. [ INAUDIBLE ]. I DON’T THINK SO. IT MAKES ME NERVOUS TO LET HER GET ON THE BUS IN THE AFTERNOON. YOU — SHE DOESN’T KNOW IF THEY HAD A GUN. Reporter: THEN THE DRIVER USED INAPPROPRIATE SCARE TACTICS TO HUSH THE KIDS. I HAVE SEEN A BUS DRIVER HAVE A HEART ATTACK. HE MADE IT TO THE MIDDLE SCHOOL. THAT’S AS FAR AS HE COULD MAKE IT. SHE IS TELLING BUS DRIVERS HAVE HEART ATTACKS BECAUSE KIDS TALK ON A BUS. TO SIT THERE AND HOLD THEM AT A SCHOOL FOR 45 EXTRA MINUTES BECAUSE YOU CAN’T HANDLE A CONVERSATION BETWEEN KIDS ON A BUS IS UNACCEPTABLE. Reporter: DID SHE WAIT TOO LONG? WE HAVE TO DISCUSS. IT’S A DIFFICULT JOB. AND I GUESS I WANT TO POINT OUT THAT HER LEVEL OF TREATMENT OF THESE CHILDREN, WE DON’T FEEL LIKE WAS EVER INAPPROPRIATE. Reporter: BETH BROTHERTON SAID THE DRIVE AND IRRELEVANT RAT PARENT WILL BE BROUGHT IN FOR QUESTIONING. THE CRUX OF THE PROBLEM HERE IS THE SHORTAGE OF DRIVERS. Reporter: YEAH, THAT DRIVER SHORTAGE, 50 DRIVERS SHORTAGE RIGHT NOW. THEY ARE TRYING TO HIRE. IT’S A THANK LESS JOB AND HARD TO GET PEOPLE IN. ADDIE HAMPTON, 7NEWS. ADDIE, THERE IS A DRIVER SHORTAGE FOR BUS DRIVERS IN GREENVILLE COUNTY AS LONG AS I HAVE LIVED HERE. I DON’T THINK THAT HAS EVER CHANGED. WHAT DO THEY HAVE TO DO TO ADDRESS THAT. OBVIOUSLY SAYING THEY NEED DRIVERS IS NOT ENOUGH? Reporter: EXACTLY, GORE DONE. TO BE HONEST, I DON’T KNOW THAT I HAVE ANNIVERSARIES FOR THAT BECAUSE THEY DON’T HAVE ANNIVERSARIES. THEY ARE TRYING IN SO MANY DIFFERENT CREATIVE WAYS. THIS CONTINUES TO BE A PREVAILING ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AND SOON OR IT WILL CONTINUE TO HAPPEN.

  1. My bus driver is fine with the noise he just want us to sit down and are bus driver is very funny he makes jokes when everyone is going to school my bus driver makes my day and I'm very lucky to have a bus driver like him!🤗

  2. This bus driver overreacted so much. They're kids! Do you expect them to sit all nice and neat, straight and tall, smiling not speaking a word, as if the bus was a library? No. YOU know dang well those kids are gonna talk. I would've left immediately, emergency exit I guess. My god!

  3. If they choose to back the bus driver then they should call the parents and tell them that the stupid driver won't give back their kids

  4. ʙᴜs ᴅʀɪᴠᴇʀs ᴀʀᴇ ʜᴀᴠɪɴɢ ʜᴇᴀʀᴛ ᴀᴛᴛᴀᴄᴋs ʙᴇᴄᴀᴜsᴇ ᴏғ ᴋɪᴅs ᴛᴀʟᴋɪɴɢ me: HOW CAN YOU GET A HEART ATTACK FROM US TALKING LIKE WTF

  5. On my bus everybody was noisy which is NORMAL COMPLETLEY NORMAL for a school bus she stopped and pulled over for 2 whole hours so i took extreme risks and called the police and she was arrested and fired

  6. When I was in middle school, my bus driver would stop the bus when kids were being too loud, then continue after they quieted down. She would do this a few times, then would turn around and GO BACK TO THE SCHOOL if they continued. It was one particular Friday when she returned to the school at least FIVE TIMES…it took almost THREE HOURS for me to get home. My mom was on the verge of a panic attack; the school didn't contact the parents of the kids on my bus, and I didn't have a phone at the time to tell my mom what happened(not that I would've been able to; electronics, including phones, were not allowed to be used on the bus, or else they would be taken away and you would be given detention).

  7. See on my bus we have those obnoxious 8th graders that scream and throw things and be stupid, but my bus driver will handle it, if it gets to far she will tell us to quiet down. But honestly people who can’t handle that can just stop.

  8. I agree with the bus drivers choice. She waited to long but…. what if the kids are yelling back there and a kid is getting punched at or is getting bullied? Then the bus driver would look back in the reer mirror, and might crash. What if the bus driver has blood pressure? And it gets to high and the bus driver might have a stroke.

  9. I agree with the bus driver me and my bus driver are fed up with all the noise I can't hear my phone she cant concentrate so why should she drive she shouldn't

  10. I don't drive a bus with all this noice. Well have you tried dropping them off at home? I mean if you drop 1 student off that's 1 less student making noice so really when you drop all the kids off you got no noice it's really that simple.

  11. Bro my bus driver let's you'd take as loud as our lungs can go and she wears those sound blocking headphones and we get up and take in her to let her know something and overall our bus is really calm and no drama

  12. Oh poor kids, they had the harshest punishment ever……… waiting until they all shut up. Yes, they're so traumatized. If it were up to me, I'd take them back to the school and make their parents pick them up. That's worse.

  13. In my last year in elementry a sub bus driver stopped right before my friends stop and wouldn't continue to drive until we were quite. I belive his exact words were: "I can stay here all night. I get paid every hour so I'm totally fine with this."
The next year in Juinior high we had him again and you can bet we were hella quite.

EDIT: we only stayed in the middle of the road for like 2 minutes. Because we were IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. Also, there was a parent at my stop so we told them and our own parents.

  14. Talking is ok, screaming and fighting and changing seats is not. I had to take a bus for a few years and it had kids age 3-18. It was up to us older kids to help the driver with the younger ones. It's dangerous to have a bunch of screaming kids distracting you from the road. The kids these days are not getting enough discipline at home, and I do not mean whuppings. American parents are failing in their jobs. Why else are we having all these crazed shooting. Unstable children due to poor parenting.

  15. A bus driver need to set the tone from day one. "Stay in your seats, keep your hands to yourself, no screaming or yelling. It's not that long of a drive and I want us all to be safe, so don't distract me. Distractions are dangerous." If kids acted up when I was young, the driver would stop the bus and not continue until everyone sat down and was behaving.

  16. The answer is better pay and parents teaching their kids how to behave when in a moving vehicle. Talking to the kid next to you is one thing, they were likely screaming and yelling. Kids all need to be given headphones and ipods to get them to be quiet.

  17. my middle school bus driver shut us up by blasting the classical music channel on the radio. Shut us up in 30 seconds.

  18. Why is this even making the news? So what? My bus driver did this to us in the 80s. Who gives a shit? Society has turned today's kids into a bunch of whiny ass babies

  19. If I was stuck on that bus with that ludicrous bus driver, I'm pretty I'll have a panic attack. I mean who wouldn't freak out of they have stay on a bus for at least an hour due to a lot of "noise" going on? Speaking of which that bimbo needs to get her carcass out of that bus, make herself useful, learn from her mistakes, and get an actual part-time job that won't get her fired.

  20. This female school bus driver deserves to lose her job because she is unable to keep her attitude in check.

  21. 99% of the time you can tell kids on the bus to use inside voices, and before you know it they are screaming… If the bus driver says no talking, then it's no talking..it might suck,,, but imagine having to hear screaming kids while you are driving, that could make everybody on the bus unsafe. The kids lives are in the hands of the bus driver. Listen to what they say, and show them some respect.

  22. If this happened in my day, me as a student would of said "not taking me home? then let me off" and if the driver refused to let me off, then I'd goto the back of the bus, open the emergency exit and get off regardless. Especially if my parents were outside the bus demanding I be let off.

  23. that driver is an idiot if i had a kid on there i would run up to the bus and YELL at the driver to tell her to drop off the kids and if she refused i would break on to the bus and get my kid and call the cops on the driver

  24. The bus driver has to MAKE the decisions the mater of safety! If the kids are noisey . My bus won't be moving till they are using the in side voices!

  25. Talking is one thing…yelling and screaming another. I wish I had a group of kids this quiet. My kids talk all the time at a reasonable level this is nothing!!!! If you can't handle this level lady you don't need to be driving. They were already an hour late and you made them wait another 45…unreasonable.

  26. The Bus Driver and the Bus District were wrong in what they did, the Driver for not allowing the students off the bus when they were SUPPOSED to be in School and the Bus District for backing the Driver up on what she did..No kid should endure something like that…ever…

  27. I hate to tell all you retards who are attacking the bus driver, Students are to hold low conversations with each other. Not scream and yell. This is very distracting to the driver and is very dangerous. If you have never driven a bus then you have no place to make any comments. Noise travels and is increased on a bus. You have the following choices, 1. tell your kids to behave or, 2 get off your fat asses and take them and pick them up from school. Personally if it was that big of a problem, your child would be kicked off my bus! Riding the bus is not a right it is a priviledge!

  28. This is to all the parents that have spoil kids with your respect,I'm a bus driver my self for more then 10
years ,I've been driving big buses . If you think driving buses is an easy job ,i think we should be getting
paid more then what we getting .Is a big responsible job to take your children safe from. home to school, and from school back home ,i my self pull over to the side shut the bus off and tell the students to keep the noise down .
,is ok to talk but when is out of control is hard to concentrate,we can't even hear the radio when we are getting called from the bus yard.Lots of these students are very disrespectful to the driver ,some of these kids bully other kids they jump, stand ,walk on the ile, when the bus driver is driving. Lots of drivers dont care if their students are standing ,jumping, loud,.As for me every student needs to be sitting down or they get written up .Who ever dont follow the rules in the bus gets written up.Some of these kids of course the way they behaved at home ,they behaved in the bus. I think the district should make meetings once a
month in the school gym for parents, and student and show couple of video tapes of their behavior in the bus .Not only that students are not the only one ,sometimes parents are worst one too .with their nasty attitude .Would love to see those parents driving a bus .As a bus driver with my experiences i set the
rules from the beginning of the school year .You have talk about bus safety and to use seat belts for their safety .And as parents you should talk to your children about their behavior in the bus .Us drivers dont get respect from some parents either, sometimes they give us that hate look ,nasty attitude,
But lately i have wonderful students that follow rules ,And to those crazy drivers that when buses are doing school zone they blowing the horn like saying why you driving slow .We going slow cause we doing
the school zone is the law ,when we doing the railroad stop also this message is to those idiots that are
always almost under the buses bumper when we doing the railroad crossing ,school buses have too stop
before the railroad crosssing is the law so stand back and stop blowing your horns .You scarring the driver ,cause when you blow the horn we think is the train .Also for the crazy idiots that are always tail gating buses when they doing their pick ups ,stand up back ,back off .There are so many dont respect school buses, just remenber it could be your child, your grandchild in that bus.And im very sorry for
those crazy bus drivers, yeah i could say they are a few that shouldn't be driving school buses. But for one stupid thing a bus driver do .They look at all the drivers badly. But to let you know to all you parents, As a bus driver i always make sure my kindergardens, first graders 2graders wear their seatbelts,i tell them is for their safety .And looking how many crazy people cut buses off and we constantly breaking ,Won't want any of my students getting hurt .Oh one last thing parents also should understand that when is
raining,or snowing the roads are very slippery, and we always be running late ,sometimes there are accidents on the road or any other thing so sometimes we got to reroute ,and we also get intouch with the bus office when there is a problem . Well these are my words ,hope i didn't offended any body ,but i spoke the truth .And hope the best and safety for all students .And for those that dont stop when buses are picking up students and passes the red stops signs ,they make believe they didnt see remenber one thing put the news on and find out how many student had gotten kill by careless stupid drivers .HAPPY
    HOLIDAYS EVERYONE
    GOD BLESS. You all

  29. Why was their normal bus more than an hour late? Did it break down? I think the bus driver who refused to drive them home should have been terminated. What would have happened if these were elementary school children?

  30. When I was in bradway one time coming home the bus was so noisey the bussdriver montarley stoped the bus for 10 munits the resumed the route

  31. Clearly people do not know how loud 75 talking kids on a bus can be! Its like being in a bar full of loud drunk people but being expected to drive safely even though you could not hear a car horn or a siren if those kids lives depended on it! Oh wait their lives kind of do depend on it!

  32. It's easy to be mad as a parent about this but until you drive a bus and have to put up with extreme noise everyday, you have no idea. I understand some mean old drivers take this to extremes but at least they are getting your child home safe. Being too loud causes a distraction for the drivers.

  33. Want more drivers…raise the pay and back your drivers in these cases. No idiot us going to drive if they think they are going to get fired or go to jail for making children mind!
    From: bus driver in Kentucky.

  34. Well screaming and yelling on the bus is not allowed, that's dangerous and distracts the driver. The driver has to hear car horns, oncoming traffic, people crossing the street, and railway crossing bells. You can also cause an accident making too much noise on the bus. Make the driver proud, don't be loud.

  35. They are not kids having conversations lady. Again I repeat, they are not having conversations. They are kids who scream, yell, and talk loud. They also play around and horseplay laughing out loud. The decibels are high. It's unsafe to drive a bus under those conditions. Sometimes drivers have to stop the bus to calm things down. Then two minutes later, they are at it again. Many drivers have taken your advise and quit their job. That's why there is a big shortage lady. No one wants to deal with your problem kid.

  36. Kids can be very disrespectful too. Train your kids right. Behind your back your kids do all kinds of crazy ands disrespectful things because they know parents like you will back them in their wrongs. So you go drive the bus then and deal with them. Everyone thinks their kids are angels!

  37. Attention school bus drivers KIDS ARE NOISY! Okay? Don't be so stupid. They're hyper , they're excited about being out of school & going home & they're just being kids. What do you expect? For them to be sedated?? If noisy kids bothers school bus drivers then it's time to find another line of work. Please! Have some sense.

  38. Until these parents do this job, they need to stfu, kids can get really loud and obnoxious on a school bus!!!

  39. What kind if stupid bus driver doesn't let kids out do to the loud noise, if the noise bothers you put some fucking earmuffs on, what's wrong with people talking anyway? Everybody talks, so stupid!

  40. This stupid woman (Butler) can personally transport her brat to & from school going forward. ….Not my child he's an angel.

  41. This has happened to me many times and there have been many complaints about my bus driver but the school won't fire him

  42. illegal refusal of proper right of transit is called kidnapping.. not their job to control noise. you have a schedule to keep. you don't like it,,,,get another job

  43. So quick to judge these days! I say let the parents complaining drive a bus filled with entitled disrespectful children for a week then tell us how easy it is. A bus driver has a very important job and it's to provide safe transportation to our children. Think a bunch of screams kids jumping around acting like animals is a distraction? Is the bus safe?
    STTS- Stop Think Then Speak!

  44. Bus drivers need to start getting everybody where passengers need to go to ON TIME! Bus drivers also need to start talking appropriately to everybody on board or they're fired. Bus drivers need to be a little more like pilots and motorcoach drivers and slow down so everything becomes smoother.

  45. If I were that father I would have called the police. If some bus driver is keeping my child from me, that's when the gloves come off. And 'shortage of drivers', really? So, now it doesn't matter how unqualified you are, you get the job because they cannot find anything else? As to what they need to do? Well, let's see. Decent salary, benefits, etc. Ring any bells? Who needs 'creative' solutions?

  46. I dont care if the kids talking loud on the bus but if they gonna cuss play loud music and sticking they head out the window then I'm going to pull over and wait for 45 minutes until they calm down.

  47. Been there, done that. Me and my friends just opened up the emergency window in the middle of the bus and threw our stuff out and then hopped out lol. She was a fat old lady so she didn't do shit besides yelling at us lol. Good old days, know what I'm sayin
