BUT HIS FAMILY DOESN’T WANT TO FOCUS ON HOW HE DIED – INSTEAD THEY WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW HOW HE LIVED. DON AYRES CAME FROM HUMBLE BEGINNINGS. SARA “AS A KID HE WOULD FIX UP CARS AND SELL THEM TO PEOPLE. EVEN HIS TEACHERS AT SCHOOL.” IT WAS -THAT- PASSION FOR CARS THAT HELPED HIM BUILD A THRIVING BUSINESS FROM THE GROUND UP. SARA “HE JUST HAD CARS IN HIS BLOOD.” AYRES OPENED UP IS OWN CAR DEALERSHIP WHEN HE WAS JUST 27 YEARS OLD. IT GREW INTO THE POPULAR “DON AYRES HONDA” HIS DAUGHTER – SARA AYRES – NOW RUNS THE FAMILY BUSINESS. SHE RECALLS THE DAYS HER DAD WALKED THE SHOWROOM FLOOR – CREATING FRIENDSHIPS WITH BOTH CUSTOMERS AND EMPLOYEES ALIKE. AYRES WAS ESPECIALLY SUPPORTIVE OF LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL – PURCHASING STADIUM LIGHTS FOR A BALL PARK DESPERATLY IN NEED.” JOHN “THESE KIDS ARE LOOKING AND WATCHING MAJOR LEAGUERS PLAY UNDER THE LIGHTS. NOW THEY PLAY UNDER LIGHTS. ITS KIND OF A BIG DEAL TO THEM.” THE TEAM WAS EVENTUALLY NAMED AFTER AYRES, ALONG WITH A BALL PARK. JOHN “IT’S VERY HUMBLING AND THAT’S SOMEONES NAME SO THE KIDS TAKE PRIDE THAT WE ARE SUPPOSE TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND BE A GOOD PERSON AND HAVE GOOD SPORTNMANSHIP.” HIS CONTRIBUTIONS CAME FULL CIRCLE – YEARS LATER HIS OWN GRANDCHILDREN BECAME APART OF THE TEAM. SARA “IT WAS NEAT BECAUSE HIS GRANDSONS PLAYED IN THE LITTLE LEAGUE . HE WAS ABLE TO SEE THEM ENJOY THAT LEAGUE.” AYRES LEAVES BEHIND FAMILY, FRIENDS, AND A COMMUNITY HE LOVED SO DEARLY. AND A LEGACY THAT CARRIES ON THROUGH HIS DEALERSHIP “DON AYRES HONDA.” SARA “HE DID SO MUCH FOR ME, GAVE ME AN INCREDIBLE OPPORTUNITY TO BE INVOLVED IN THIS BUSINESS.
