Driver in Iowa fired after 6-year-old left alone on bus for hours


A driver in Iowa was fired after she left a 6-year-old boy alone for two hours in a bus on a hot day this week, according to reports  The driver, who worked for Durham School Services, left the bus at a lot in Waterloo, Iowa, with the boy — who had misunderstood instructions when he boarded the vehicle — still inside Tuesday, according to the AP  “The incident in which the student was not dropped at his house and returned to the bus lot is a breach of our policy and the driver was terminated,” Edward Flavin, Durham School Services spokesman, told the Daily News in an email “As a result of this incident, yesterday we sent a senior safety and operations team to the bus yard to assess how this happened and retrain drivers on proper drop off protocol to ensure this doesn’t happen again ”  The boy was found sleeping on the bus after his mother made frantic phone calls, the AP reported Waterloo Schools was investigating the incident with Durham School Services, said Tara Thomas, a spokeswoman for the school district, in an emailed statement  The temperature hovered below 90 degrees for most of Tuesday in Waterloo.  In another school bus incident in the Iowa city this week, a 9-year-old was reportedly dropped off at the wrong spot Monday
