Edd China on leaving Wheeler Dealers

Edd China on leaving Wheeler Dealers

Yes, I am afraid it is true, and I am really sorry. Afer 13 years of making Wheeler Dealers, I am now going to be leaving the show. Wheeler Dealers is a great car show, reportedly the biggest on the planet at the moment It is broadcast in about 220 territories around the globe and apparently has several hundred million viewers worldwide. This success would not have been possible without the huge collaborative effort by the production team over the years but most of all because of the loyalty and appreciation of our fans who have kept watching, in ever increasing numbers around the globe. Because you kept watching it; we kept making it. So thank you all for that. Making Wheeler Dealers is no easy task and every episode requires a massive effort from a dedicated team of people. We started, all those years ago, on a niche channel in the UK with just a small production: Michael Wood and Dan Allum; the founders of Attaboy TV and originators of the show, one production manager, a camera man, a sound man and Mike and myself. One hundred and thirty five cars later we have grown to a production team of over forty five staff, and we are now entertaining much of the TV watching planet. It’s been quite a ride. It was exactly the worldwide popularity of Wheeler Dealers and sheer size of the audience, coupled with the lack of product placement and brand endorsements within the show which meant that Discovery US and Velocity Channel saw an opportunity for further exploitation of the brand and so, after season twelve, the show commission was taken over by Velocity Channel in the US, who decided to replace Attaboy TV with Discovery Studios in California. Unfortunately, on Velocity’s first attempt at producing the show they found Wheeler Dealers ‘too difficult to make’, ‘at least in its current format’. In particular, the detailed and in depth coverage of my fixes in the workshop; what I consider to be the backbone and USP of the programme, are something Velocity feel should be reduced. The workshop jobs are certainly the hardest part of the show to make and reducing their substance and role in the show will save the production considerable time, effort and therefore money. However, this new direction is not something I am comfortable with as I feel the corners I was being asked to cut compromised the quality of my work and would erode my integrity as well as that of the show, so I have come to the conclusion that my only option is to let Velocity get on with it, without me. Wheeler Dealers has been an enormous part of my life since 2002, a real roller coaster of demanding challenges and triumphant moments. It has been a privilege to meet and work with so many great people from the workshop to the joy rides, to be allowed to experience so many fabulous cars and amazing locations. Leaving the show at the height of its success has been a really tough decision to make Sometimes you’ve just got to break free from the confines of your rut and head for the far horizon. I would like to thank Attaboy TV, Mike, our incredible crew, and everyone who has contributed to making such a great programme for all of these years. A special thank you must go to every one of our fans for watching these past thirteen series, it has been great having you along for the ride, your appreciation means so much. Mike and Velocity will continue to make Wheeler Dealers, apparently with Ant Anstead taking my place in the workshop, so new episodes will be on your screens in due course. Being the new boy is never easy, so please give Ant your support, I wish him the very best of luck. It will certainly be nice to see Mike turn up at the workshop with yet another wreck knowing I don’t have to do any of the work! As for me, I am already working on some great new projects which will expand my world in new directions as I will have a bit of time on my hands, I’ll even start to put some things up on my youTube channel, so keep an eye out for that. Right now though, I just feel relieved and exhilarated with freedom and I can’t wait to get cracking on the exciting opportunities that lie ahead. For years Discovery have been encouraging everyone to: ‘make your world bigger’ and that is exactly what I am now doing.

  1. Im Sorry Edd ,But Im Not Watching The Show Now Only Repeats ,Its Not The Same Without You Edd China ,A Big Man With A Big Heart ,And Brilliant End Results,Good Luck Edd For The Future ….Phil.

  2. To be fair, I was unsure who was telling the truth in all this. Mike denied that the show was featuring less of the repair and that Velocity hadn't mentioned it. However, having just watched one of the latest episodes, it features Mike buying a truck that needs nothing done to it. It's in perfect working order and even looks pretty good mechanically. All Ant did was upgrade a few parts by swapping one unit out for another. Really dumbed down stuff unfortunately.

So as it turns out…. Edd was right to leave.

  3. Dear Edd. This program without you is not the same anymore. Good luck and we are waiting for new projects.

  4. It's impossible to think wheeler dealers without you. It was a great pleasure watching you and learning at the same time.

  6. Edd China was the show. I simply can't watch it any longer, it's nothing against Ant. China was just perfect for the role. Fixing the vehicle is what gear heads like myself watched for. Yet another thing my fellow Americans have ruined!

  7. Ed. We loved watching you. Start a you tube channel of you working on and showing cars and interviewing collectors. Jay Leno does very well. You could too. Miss watching you.

  8. The big disappointment for the Wheeler Dealers… Edd must mourn for what you lost. We love you! we miss you… ,(

I'm constantly watching the old part of you … New part of the repair and reduction of the renovation part is nonsense …

  9. great guy i loved watching you very very good at what you do wish you were local to help my son fix his car thank mr china for a great tv program

  10. Dead show now ed, loseing you in my opinion made its lose its way, im just glad you and mike havnt fell out and that its all change for a reason other than a falling out, good luck mate wheeler dealers may have died but this is a new chapter for you, seen the video you done for drive tribe, just and ideal for the sofa speed world record team up with colin furze i beleive you two together will more than smash 120mph

  11. I noticed that Wheeler Dealers started to go downhill as soon as the greedy capitalist mob of American tossers became involved. (Now there's a fuckin' surprise – eh!?!) Fuck the Yanks!

  12. You know what Edd says here is all well and good. But looking at the format of the new series with Edds replacement. The in depth involvement of the mechanical fixing and explaining of what how and why things work is a lot more involved and descriptive than when Edd was part of the show!
So it seems that Edd is clearly mistaken about this. As although missed Edd's input isn't as good as Ant's input on the new show!
With more things being undertaken by Ant, .I.E. The metal forming, fabrication, and what everyone wanted Edd to do painting!!!
So with that I'd say there's more than meets the eye to this than Edd's description of the events that led up to him leaving the show!!
You should of stayed where you where Edd and just did your job, you silly sausage!!!

  13. tu vas nous manquer. j ait regarder le nouveau cet pas pareil rien a voir j espere a bientôt sur nos chaîne francaise

  14. Thank you Edd! I love your attitude and you work, i start to watch "weelers dealers" one month ago and i appreciate more the geniality behind of one motor, you ara a genius! (27/07/19)

  15. La verdad no entiendo a ninguno de los otro comentarios, pero joyas sobre ruedas no es lo mismo sin Edd y no lo será.wheeler dealers desde el 2002 el años en que yo nací.

  16. Without Edd it's not Wheeler Dealer!

You have a big Fan base in Germany. Here the show is called die Gebrauchtwagen Profis

  17. Edd, rest assure everyone watched the show out of fascination how a handy mechanic (you) gave second life to any car. If someone thinks he knows better………..He actually doesn't !!

  18. I loved watching Ed on wheeler dealers …..i learned such a lot about cars by watching him….and i really like that Ed has fans all over the world…i had no idea ……he is so watchable with his knowledge….hope everything works out for you Ed…

  19. I watched half an episode of new wheeler dealers and it isn’t the same with Ed missing ..ffs get him back on mainstream tv the bloke is brilliant….

  20. Find, das sehr sehr schade denn das was er denn Menschen, am Auto gezeigt hatt war einmalig, und man konnte dabei was lernen jetzt ist Edd China weg und das ganze macht irgendwie keinen spass mehr zu schauen.

  21. Sendeki samimiyeti öbür ustada göremedim ed china
I don't see Ed's sincerity in the other newcomer. I love you ed

  22. Just found this video. I watched WD because of all the detail Edd was going into. The new format, IMO, is the exact reason why I stopped watching the "Power
Block". Less wrenches turning and more product placement. No reason why it should take 4 episodes to install a head on an engine. Always enjoyed watching.

  23. edd usta
gel ankara şaşmaz a edd in yeri diye bi servis aç
yeminederim 1 haftada şaşmazı satın alacak kadar para kazanırsın
gel usta bu dediğimi yabana atma gel

  24. Your chemistry are classic but your part has to be the most best part

    Ur absolutely brilliant!!

  25. Like Mike immensely, but Edd was the real deal about the show. I learned a lot about working on cars from his advice and expertise. Not a fan of the Ant chap, and along with his pursuit of the Blonde TV bimbo in Cali, I can't watch the show any longer. Can't stand her or him. Discovery has ruined a good thing, I'll hope that Mike comes out of it OK, he is a good guy…

  26. Hi Edd fan of your show I live in France. I am really disgusted with your departure because you are a pillar for this show. I noticed your departure but I thought your absence was a health concern. Indeed I understand your decision to leave the show because doing a half work does not reflect your personality. I wish you a good start and stay as you always were. Good luck hoping to see you soon can be in a new show.

  27. Ohne Edd China werde ich Wheeler Dealers nicht mehr schauen… die Sendung ist für mich ohne dich gestorben, grüsse aus Deutschland….
Without Edd China, I will not look at Wheeler dealers anymore…. the broadcast died for me without you, greetings from Germany….

  28. Dopiero teraz dowiedziałem się co się stało. Bez Ciebie tego programu już nie oglądam. Razem tworzyliscie drużynę. Szkoda. Ed powodzenia!!!!

  29. Il y avait le showman avec Mike, et le professeur avec Edd…Le prof est parti, je ne regarde donc plus WD….Edd pourrait recommencer à lui seul…A bientôt…Pour le plaisir TV…Kiss

  30. even when I watched the show on YouTube, I'd skip the trading part and get to the part where you fix the cars. it's very disappointing that it's come to this

  31. ((😏)) sorry but it just won’t be the same without you Eddie China … it just won’t be the same , may it be happy trails to ya brother : ✌🏻🌾

  32. Hello Mr. CHINA. I am a French viewer who has been watching Wheeler Dealers for years. The French channel RMC Découverte, still broadcasts to this day episodes of Wheeler Dealers where you appear. You have passionate about the quality of your work and the explanations you give about your work. You have made this show a must. We will miss you. Good luck in your new projects.

  33. Sorry Ant but jog on lol . Ed cheers for all the mems of motors ive owned such as the 1600E Cortina and Jensen Interceptor . Your a top man and i dont blame you leaving as i would also cheeky twats . Stay Lucky mate 😎

  34. Dear Edd,

Sorry for the very late response, Edd.
Not very often here, recognized your farewell at this place first time today.

Nothing to worry about and nothing to reason with, Edd!

Life and living is about changing not wheeling like a hamster either hard work though.
Be happy and proud it was you who put the foot down, no matter a third party or fate
stepped on – you should be grateful for it.

If it was someones fault – than it was yours missing the escape hatch prior they turned up.
Because you and Mike were already worn out at the time you started to import ancient lorries, muscle cars and expensive rare breeds only a very tiny fraction of your former audience ever came across either for repair or as a buyer.

I wish you and your loved ones all the best and many many thanks for more than a decade of adding utmost quality to my life.

    Michael Damian

  35. It’s a shame to see you go edd loved watching the show and your knowledge and tips have helped me do some of my own repairs on my cars good luck in the future hope to see your new projects soon so from Australia good luck mate

  36. It was certainly a hard decision, but I think you choose the best one. Wheeler Dealer is my favourite TV program, and you was the main reason I watch it. You are and you'll stay the best mechanician I have never seen. Good luck for the future. Greetings from France !

  37. only one looser for me and that's wheeler dealers no edd no show loved all the technical details got me fired up to get my tools out again thanks edd best regards to the family

  38. A gentlemanly way of putting things across Edd, because it can't have been easy quitting the programme and being treated the way they treated you regarding your tools and some of the things Mike has said about you since you left.
In view of the tremendous success of the original set up of the programme I'm a bit staggered no-one has taken a chance by offering you another programme based in the UK/Europe.
After all Velocity have diminished the programme in my eyes by transferring it to the USA where it will become just another American car programme.
Good luck with your future ventures.

  39. If it's so good and so well wacthed why stop ? And make 45 people out of work ? Any way you can work on my van if you like

  41. Gd luck in what u do in the future mate love ur program edd hope to see in the near future and good look with ur YouTube channel
