From Opera Singer to Gentleman Car Dealer – Part 2 – Aston Martin DB7 (Ger. ENG/NL Subs)

“The pleasure of driving Aston Martin” Aston Martin is always connected with
James Bond. Agent 007 all over… …doesn’t every man wants.
just once in his life… … be al little bit a James Bond. With all these British cars…. …I always dreamed… …about “The Gentlemen’s Express”, par
excellance People always remark: “O, Aston Martin,
that is just big toys for big boys” It is way too expensive… …and maintenamce even worse. This is the Aston Martin DB7. There are some similarities with the
Bentley we filmed before. The Lagonda brand is connected… …with W.O.Bentley,
Bentley’s constructor, verbonden… …because he sold 1931 his company
to Rolls-Royce in 1931… …and started working for Lagonda… …where he developed a fantastic engine
with… …6 cylinders and
double overhead camshafts. Later Aston Martin was bought by
tractoren manufacturer David Brown. But couldn’t acquire the right engine. He bought Lagonda just for this engine. The egineering was performed by W.O.Bentley. This is how the famous brand
Aston Martin-Lagonda was formed. DB series was named after David Brown. Numbers 2 to 7.
In the meanwhile we arived at the DB11. About this model we can say… …that, without it, the brand Aston Martin
wouldn’t have survived the ninety’s. The base for this model was
developed by Jagua. The XJS. Tom Walkinshaw Racing later built
thys 6-cylinder supercharged. The body was, remarkably enough
designed by Rolls-Royce and Bentley. The cars Aston Martin built afterwards… …under supervision of the famous
Doctor Ulrich Bez… …as CEO of Aston Martin. These where far more like sportscars I once had the opportunity to drive a
V8 Vantage… …equipped with a very sturdy suspension… …not exactly comfortable This is why many say this is
the real Grand Tourer because… …it still has the comfort. Of course the capabilities
are a bit less compared to the later models… …the real sportscars… …butr, as GTit serves well.
The car is comfortable… …and doesn’t have the heavy sound
of a sportscar… …that, by soundengineering would
sound unsofisticated. This car still sounds quite cultivatedbut still
the howling of the turbos is clearly present. That singing noise, not appreciated by everyone
but really belongs to this car. Because it is a real GT, Grand Touring. As little kid I was fascinated by… …the specific smell of the interiour. It is a mix of
Leather… …wood… …and the lanbswool carpet that spreads a specific odour. Nowadays they try… …to add this flagrance artificially
because… …the modern leather doesn’t spread
the amell that much. All British cars deliver
this special experience… …when the aroma’s surround you. It is such a pity we can’t include
them in this film. Subtitels: Erik van Gerven
