Guy Gets His Tiny, Deformed Tortoise Wheels To Help Him Walk | The Dodo Little But Fierce

He came to me and I’m like, “Oh my God.” A close friend said, “Listen, I got this
really deformed tortoise. He can’t walk but if you want to work with him, I’ll send him your way.” So I said, “All right. Well, I’ll give it a chance.” Helix was only two days
old when I got him. And I’m like, “All right. Well, let’s just
see how bad this really is.” And I’m like, “Oh, my goodness!” He would eat and scoot around. Talking with other people, a buddy suggested, “You should throw on wheels.” He said. “There’s these little
fingerboards. You should do it.” So I called my wife
and she ran to Target. When I got home from work, I just
disassembled a little fingerboard and glued them on. It was like a new tortoise. From then on, he just kind of thrived. Drinking by himself, eating by himself. For sanitary reasons, I change
them definitely once a week. What I’ll do is I’ll remove his wheels. I will give him a soak. And then I’ll put the wheels on. When his wheels aren’t on,
it’s almost like he’s defeated. Like, “I’m not as good as I can be.” You put the wheels on and he
explores his enclosure, he runs around. He keeps up with the other tortoises. They’re walking to one corner, he’ll go with them. He’s kind of like one of the pack, as
if they have no clue that he has any issue at all. I’m in the medical field
so I’m talking with people and discussing, “What do you think is wrong with him?” And we got a CT scan. First time ever. I’ve never had a tortoise get a CT before. It was concluded that He shouldn’t have any issues internally
as long as he continues on eating and drinking, he’ll have a fantastic life. My daughter has had two brain surgeries
to fix what’s called a Chiari malformation. So she looks like everyone
else but inside she’s a little different. Helix is the opposite. Helix looks a little different
but inside he’s completely normal. So my kids and my daughter have
sort of a little connection to him. And the route that my wife and I have
used with Helix is to kind of share that the world, People love to see this guy thrive. It’s heartwarming that this little tortoise
can help other people and make them happy.
