Here’s Why Kias are Crap

Here’s Why Kias are Crap

rev up your engines
today I’m gonna talk about why I wouldn’t buy a Kia in this case to 2008
kia sportage now the main reason I’m not a kia fan is because over time they just
don’t hold up like better made cars do as an example this baby’s only got fifty
thousand nine hundred and fifty two miles on it but when I turn on the AC
no cold air the AC compressor is already broken and just to show the general
cheapness of the vehicle here’s the Sun Visor it won’t stay up it’s flopping down it’s
just the general show of how cheaply made these things are if I’d bought a
car and then fifty thousand miles AC compressor went out could buy I would
never buy another one that would be furious about it now you might think why
aren’t people buying these things well they cost less but if you’re really
priced a differential it isn’t all that much today
for example 2019 Kia Sportage it’s only less than two thousand dollars less than
the base Toyota rav4 now if you go back to when this thing was new 2008 the base
price of this six thousand dollars less than the base price of a Toyota rav4 but
now it’s less than two thousand differential so it’ll actually make more
sense to buy one of these things back then you were saving a reasonable amount
of money but today you really aren’t there for less than $2,000 believe me I
buy a rav4 long before I buy one of these things now I’ve had customers with
Kia’s they had engine problems transmission problems electronic
problems in this case air conditioning compressor problems stuff that you
really don’t see in the Toyotas but I’ve also had customers that were relatively
happy with the Kia’s and the reason behind out was they didn’t keep the cars
all that long but he didn’t drive that many miles
one of my customers as a 10 year old Kia but she’s only got 60,000 miles on it
she hasn’t had any real problems with it but she’s not driving it much she was
happy with the price then and she recently got rid of the thing
because she wanted a Ford Mustang she got a v6 Ford Mustang the cheapest price
one she could find and she’s happy with that but then again it for the next ten
years she only puts on sixty thousand miles hey you can pretty much buy
anything outside of Fiat products and you won’t have too many problems on the
plus side the Sportage is hey I got a lot of room inside they got the split
seats that lay back so you can carry more stuff Asian style roof rack for
extra stuff reasonable amount of space in the back seat and the usual
accessories of power windows power steering airbags now granted these
sportages they are like a small truck they don’t ride that well and even this
one’s only got 60,000 miles hey just struts on it already are worn
out it bounces around a lot and if you find a low enough mileage used one they
don’t have such high resale value you compare the resale value of one of these
to a rav4 sure the ramp for sometimes will be three or four times as expensive
as the key is you can find a little mileage one but I mean even there I’m
warning you this baby’s got 50,000 and the compressor shot already
of course even though they’re smaller SUV they’re still in last year v my
customer gets about 18 miles a gallon in town on this thing and in the mid-20s on
the highway until you get into stuff like direct injection turbo charge your
CVT transmissions and of course when you put all that technology in a car there’s
no saying how long it’s gonna last from my experience they don’t last nearly as
long as the nine turbocharged engines is the non gasoline direct engines that
have regular fuel injection you add that technology extra pressures things are
just going to wear out fast but the downside of this 2008 is it’s a
four-cylinder engine but it still got the rubber timing belt it you got to
change every once in a while hack my 2007 Toyota Matrix even that
back then has a timing chain and those things basically last forever as long as
you change your oil the chain is inside all that oil stays lubricated and a
gentler less just as long as the engine I’ve seen those things with three
hundred thousand miles they’re still original now there’s no worry you’re
gonna get 300,000 miles out of a rubber tell me about one of these things it’s
something to think about they just are cheaper made vehicles there’s no arguing
there but half being cheaper made vehicles they’re not selling that much
cheaper anymore as I said before yeah $6,000 cheaper in 2008 but 2019 there
was less than a two thousand dollar difference between the basic grab for in
the basic Sportage I definitely would take a rav4 over one of these if the
only thing I was saving was less than $2,000 on a new one but as I said if
you’re a gambling man or a woman and you want to buy a used one these things go a
lot cheaper than the Toyotas do and you find a little mileage one hey it could
be a great Knockaround car yeah you’re only off that small amount of money
instead of a whole bunch of money saved you bought of a brand new car you can
see a balance is quite a bit about a car 50,000 miles and struts we’re all worn
out the air conditioning compressor broke I’ll tell you I’d never buy
another one of these things myself now Kia at least in the United States
does spend a small fortune advertising in their cars and yeah their sales have
been up sort of like people can be fooled you see every time since they
think oh wow those are Asian cars those are great cars you know I’ll just buy
one do a little research before you buy if you’re gonna get a rant for for less
than 2 grand more than this thing by don’t even think about buying one of
these since the price gap is shortening but the quality gap as far as I’m
concerned it’s still pretty far apart I see no reason to bomb by a modern Kia
maybe a used one like I said might get a really good deal on one and it’s still got
a lot of life left, so now you know a little
bit more about Kia’s and why perhaps you should look elsewhere if you’re planning
on buying a vehicle, so if you never want to miss another one of my new car repair
videos, remember to ring that Bell

  1. I will give Kia credit, the new ones are a lot better than the old ones, but for the money I still don't think they're worth it

  2. Yea but….I just bought a 2019 Kia Sportage, it’s fully loaded, and yes it was cheaper than the Rav…but the BASE Rav. The fully loaded Rav was 4500 more! I do believe that the newer ones are better….we’ll see.

  3. Let me ask you Scotty, what do you drive? Oh, let me guess… Toyota. Every car has problems whether it's a Honda, Chevy, Dodge, GMC or Toyota. No car is perfect.

  4. Ive heard the kia is a cheaper hyundai….probably uses subpar parts that didnt pass hyundai quality inspections to keep costs down, why throw it away, make a cheap car out of it! Lol. Idk if its true, probably not, but it would explain alot of the issues you just showed here!

  5. Scotty,
Whats the story with Kia's bursting into flames? I heard that 3000+ Kia's have spontaneously caught on fire. There is a tourist in Honolulu now (08-2019) who is now struggling to live after being burning in a Kia Rental.

  6. Have an 08 Audi A3, engine was making a clicking noise, oil pressure
light came up, car now doesnt start or crank, mechanic says timing
jumped and valves are bent, says to part the car out not worth repair,
just put new ignition and starter. What to do?

  7. Had a 2003 Kia Optima and it was a great car, unfortunately it got wrecked so I bought a 2010 Hyundai Sonata so far it's gone 166K and never been to a mechanic, don't base your opinions on an old car that was probably abused and not maintained. Hyundai and Kia's are both good cars.

  8. Wife had a Kia Sorento, 2003. 257,000 miles, regular super tech oil changes every 3000. Cheapest drilled brake rotors from eBay every now and then… 2wd, handled great on ice w studded tires during winter… sold it just because she wanted something else after having it for 10 years. Just saying…

  9. I will agree with you that older Kias were really bad but I have me a 2014 Kia Sorento SX I drive it from LA to San Francisco about three times a year car has 130000 miles on it I haven't had a single problem with it absolutely in love with it

  10. Kia is one of the worst, I bought a brand new 2013 Sorento top of the line (lol) and it had electrical issue, sunroof wouldn’t close, opened on its own, radio would work then not, light came on only when the car felt like it….. neither the dealer nor the manufacturer stood by their product. Never again.

  11. On Oahu a man is on his death bed because the Kia Sol caught on fire His father is suing Kia. The news said that this happened before with Kia vehcles.

  12. Scotty stop comparing old Kia cars with latest cars l have had Kia cars for a life time and I have no problem only one of me other car Prius broke down I had to sell for 2k USD Kia is the best did Toyota feed you money to like them

  13. Honestly no matter the year or model the Kia are garbage. I used to have one and after a few months many things got damage.

  14. My 2009 KIA Magentis just turned 270K and still runs like a Swiss clock. The a/c stopped last week and the little problems are starting, leaks etc. It's been great..

  15. Kia is owned by Hyundai, and my sister used to drive a trouble-free Toyota Corolla until her ex-husband got the strange idea for her to buy a V6 Hyundai (that's one of the reason's he's her 'ex' now). The Hyundai was okay the first 5 years, then everything started to fall apart, and she gave it away to a friend and she got a used V6 Camry that is light-years ahead of the Hyundai in terms of quality, feeling of luxury, and trouble-free dependability. Problem with the V6 Camry: 0-60 in only 5.7 seconds = sometimes scares the heck out of you when you slam your foot on the gas pedal.

  16. I had a kia spectra that had over 400.000 miles on it when I sold it and my cousin bought it from me and he's still driving it.

  17. That's not a fair comparation.. not all Kia cars are the same .. The new ones are great but this particular car is old and has many problems

  18. I think Scotty is being a bit unfair on Kia's! I mean the car in question has traveled the equivalent of twice around the planet and what problem does it have? An air conditioning compressor, I mean give me a break!!! If that's all that I would have to contend with then that's not too bad to me! As for loose bits of trim, every car maker has this problem, the expensive Europeans probably being the worst culprits.

  19. As an owner of 2012 stick kia Rio gdi with 150,000 miles and absolutely no repairs other than regular maintenance…. Yeah I'd say take care of your car and your car will take care of you 👍 yes, my next car will probably be kia or Hyundai

  20. I have a 2011 Kia Soul with 92,000 miles, never had a major issue. Except for replacing the rubber belt @ 70K miles, nothing major and still runs great.

  21. 2005 Kia was ranked 30th worldwide in reliability.
As of 2016 they've taken over Lexus/Toyota for #1 in reliability by any review companies standard for the last 3 years.
When you don't know what you're talking about Scotty, don't talk.

  22. Can you do a video on buicks? I have a 99 buick park avenue with 100,000 miles only paid 1k for it and seems to be running ok, only thing wrong is my car door won't open?

  23. Yep totally agree. Got a 2003 Kia Rio and constantly having issues with it. Can’t wait too get rid of it!

  24. I'm at a loss as to why you would review and old car Kia are a lot better in 2019 than the one currently being reviewed

  25. kia optima in europe seems a good car and i also see a lot of hyunday n30 (like a golf gti but korean) do you have these in USA mates 🙂 ?

  26. This might have been the case with older Kias, The newer Kias are much better in every way. I had a 2013 Kia Sorento and did have issues but after 2 years traded it in for a new 2015 Sorento, have not had an issue except the battery needed replaced, I did not go to Kia for the battery. Otherwise, everything runs like new after 3 1/2 years, and I put on 15,000 per year.

  27. I had a 011 optima that I bought new, and a 012 optima that I bought used, the 011 had 60,000 miles on it when I sold it, and I still have the 012 with 110, 000 miles on it. I have mixed feelings about weather I would buy another KIA car again Engine and Transmission were fine in both cars, never had to repair either one in either car. Where I will agree with Scotty is, the glass on these cars seems to be cheaply made, windshield seems to chip and scratch easily, windows seem to get water stained easily. Door handles seem to break off, rear tail light had to get replaced because water was getting into it, struts on the 012 had to be replaced at 90,000, those chrome plated trim pieces that go around the windows, they are only glued on, and can come off with age. If you live some where, where it snows, better buy snow tires, other wise the car will be horrendous in snow. There are many pros about the car also, and to be fair many other mid size sedans probably have the same issues that I mentioned.

  28. Got a 2011 Kia Sedona with 120k miles on it. Bought it for 6 grand and its hasn't given me any issues, other than needing a new set of tires last year. I believe its luck of the draw with most vehicles these day because my in laws bought a Silverado brand new two years ago and is giving them electrical issues now.

  29. I am a former aircraft industry instrument manufacturing inspector. I gave a suggestion to Toyota to help improve their product in one case and received a great letter from Tokyo HQ. Honorable persons that care about their machines and quality. Hyundai (KIA sister) reply to one time possible product improvement was "We do not consider unsolicited comments." A major attitude difference that reflects poorly on their product.

  31. Nah they’re good now lol my 2015 Kia Optima I put on 130k miles and then just traded it in for a 2019 one they last forever now

  32. My 2008 Accord had the same problem with the visor. has a crap transmission has had lots of mechanical issues and is a total rattle trap. Hyundai, Kia, Genesis of today are leaps and bounds better than the models from 2007 so ripping on a brand model from over a decade ago when compared to what they make today is disingenuous. My parents drove a 2004 Elantra that was 14 years old never had a mechanical issue. My daughters 2008 Scion with the 2.4 engine burns almost as much oil as gas.

  33. You have to maintain the A/C fruit. My 2007 Kia Sportage has nearly 200k miles on it, and has stayed running well with maintenance.
    Your mileage may vary.

  34. Girlfriend had a KIA Rio. Loved it. But taillight went out. Every 10mm bolt broke apron disassembly. Then… The timing belt jumped a gear at 60k miles. Pretty sure I drove home in a Honda civic with a very very guilty smile on my face. My Honda bolts don't seem to break. And the timing belts good. So there ya go

  35. To the Kia owners upset with his opinion, wait until you get into a crash and non of the safety features you were sold on work. I've seen it multiple times in Kias. Choose life and not Kia.

  36. I have an 08 Kia Optima 150k Miles on it everything still works perfect on it took a hit 35 mph still runs fine there’s always bad QC that comes out with any company plus they have a 10 year warranty

  37. …to be fair, Camry driver side sun visors went thru several model years where they would not stay up, just like this Kia. Don't forget about the Camry melting dash fiasco, or the decade long Sienna electric sliding door glitches… I own 2 Vibes, because I could not find good, affordable Matrix. Love this channel!!!

  38. I got a kia 2011 sorrento and the gas tank lever doesnt open. My headrest fell apart as well my ac little handle where you point the air where u want it to go and just recently my trunk doesnt stay open but it does have 150,000 miles on it and never had any problems in the engine with just oil changes done.

  39. I leased a Kia Soul a few years ago. Loved it. No issues . There were many times I chose to drive the Soul over the Cadillac XTS I owned at the same time. And I loved the XTS. I now have a 2018 Kia Cadenza. I leased it for only 2 years in case I didn't like it or had issues. I think I'm gonna buy it when the lease runs out. Hell, I'll still have 3 years of warranty left.

  40. The Chevy Equinox AC compressor doesn't last for crap either. Avoid those awful money pits on wheels at all costs!

  41. The early Sportage rode horribly. One of my friends and I test drove one for her. It was nasty. On the other hand, I have a friend who had a 2004 Kia Sorrento. She put 275,000 miles on that thing. The only thing she ever replaced, it was the harmonic balancer. She did that at 240,000 miles. I used to beg her to get rid of that thing, but she insisted that it was the most reliable car she ever owned.

  42. Hey Scotty is it a myth that it's bad to overfill your oil when you get an oil change my four hundred thousand mile Toyota was changed at Walmart in the overfilled it by half a quart will that hurt it

  43. I'm sorry but I have to disagree. I have seen more Toyota's Ford's, and Chevy's on the side of the road than I have a Kia. Oh and, that's a 2008. Scott, I don't think I need to tell you that the following generations recieved a complete face-lift both in appearance and mechanically. Also, the Stinger. The Rav is a joke! But nice sales pitch for Toyota… Smh 🤦‍♂️

  44. Damn Kia Rio would run fine then when you'd stop and go inside grocery store or something and come back you'd have to wait at least an hour for it to cool down to be able to start

  45. I have a neighbor who has kia picanto for almost ten years now it has no problem or whatsoever only the aircon sucks in the beginning she said

  46. I’d say they have at least come up to 2001- Present Honda levels of quality and reliability. Or has Honda fallen to Hyundai / Kia levels

  47. New Kia with 10yr 100k mile warranty, my gf got one it’s not that bad Kia has come a long way since 2008 scotty
