How to Install Heads Up Display in Your Car

How to Install Heads Up Display in Your Car

one, two, three, four! Rev up your engines! It’s time for the Scotty Kilmer Channel did you ever want one of these heads-up
display units in your car, like they use in fighter jets, well if you did,
today’s your lucky day, because I’m going to show you how easy it is to install
one in your car, now this particular one is called head-up display car and I got
the unit from Amazon, it was a whopping forty nine dollars and just get the end
of the units plug, go down to your obd2 port, plug it in, that’s it, so to work on
any car that’s 1996 or newer its obd2 they all are made that way, that are sold
in the United States at least, then you mount it wherever you want, so you can
get the readout whatever position you want on the glass, the kit comes with a
sticky pad that you put on, but that on later, first put it where you want it and
then when you like it there, you put the sticky pad on so it stays in place, and
if you want it comes with this reflective sheet, that you can stick up
here on the windshield, so it’s brighter but I personally find that to be a
little bit annoying, so I just used the windshield and read it off there, because
the unit itself has this little sensor it measures how strong the sunlight is,
so in broad daylight it’ll make the unit brighter, so you can
see it better, then you just drive around and the unit starts working, now I do
have to admit, I initially had a problem with the unit, when I drove it first it
was set on kilometres instead of miles, so I had to set it back to miles and
although the directions for the unit said, easy switching back from miles to
kilometers, it wasn’t that easy at all and that’s because the directions in the
box were horrendous, as we all know it’s bad enough when a computer tech guy
writes a manual, but in this case it was a Chinese computer tech guy, writing in
English and half the time, it didn’t even make any sense, but I don’t give up easy,
so I googled it on YouTube, I just put in car head-up display and up popped the
video that explains how to set the whole thing,
the unboxing and the stalling this head-up display it’s a 14 minute long
video, that explains how to set the whole thing, once I watch that video, I was able
to change from kilometers to miles and do everything that it claimed it could
do, but without that video, believe me you will be completely lost, and perhaps
the funniest thing is, I wrote an Amazon saying I had a hard time switching this,
how can it be done, then they responded and said thanks for your feedback and
said our technical man told him that products don’t have this function, if you
have other questions contact me, so Idon’t try to go to them to get answers, watch
that video, that the other guy made, it explains how it works and it does work
quite well, once you figure out how to program it, you can program to show
any of these things, vehicle speed, engine, water temperature, battery voltage, fuel
consumption, mileage measurements, shift reminding, fatigue reminding, low voltage
alarm, all kinds of stuff, if you’re into racing around you, can program it so
the big dial shows just the RPMs just like a real race car, they don’t care
about the speed, all they care about is the RPM and the engine and what gear
they’re in and if you wonder how this little thing can do all that, basically
all that’s doing is plugging into the data port and getting the data that the
computer in your car already has, then it shows the data up on
your windscreen, so you can read it while you drive, I have to admit it’s a pretty
cool device, once you figure out how to program the thing, so if you were
thinking about getting one of these heads-up displays, why not I try this one
out, for 49 bucks you can have a lot of fun and it actually is a good safety
feature, not that you’re going to be shooting down any enemy planes in your
car and remember if you got any car questions just visit the Scotty Kilmer
channel before it’s too late

  2. I googled this problem on youtube and you say to google on youtube, now I am trapped in this endless cycle😯

  3. a video about an install where he basically told us to go watch another video about the same install. Genius

  4. I like this. Looks pretty cool, and keeps your head up instead of glancing down taking your eyes off of traffic and road.

  5. I have an app on my phone, digihud, doesn't have all the features as seen here but when driving during the rut it makes getting your eyes up and looking for deer much easier. Not to mention traffic in and out of work and the complete nut jobs that other there.

  6. The only problem I that it might take your attention away from driving. It's like having a portable t.v. on the dash.

  7. chinese guy writes in english and half the time it didnt make any sense !! ha ha good one.. we all always have this problem.

  8. I saved this video because when I get my dream car I definitely want one of these! Instead of a sticky pad though, I personally would just want one of those rubber things that you can put on the dash and just put your device on top of that so you can later move it if necessary. They have similar things for your phone

  9. Do all newer cars have the plastic on the windshield that causes the display to where you almost see double?

  10. People need more distractions while they drive, texting is bad enough, now a huge heads up display to get to your next head on collision.

  11. just saw this video today (2018) – has any information been changed? sounds like a fun and cheap mod, and like you said – this is also a good safety feature. my dash info doesn't include engine temperature…

  12. So if you were say a software developer and could pick up a new programming language easily, you could conceivably get a port converter type of thing to hook it up to your laptop and read everything the car was telling you? This has some possibilities.

  13. So if you are from Texas then get this gizmo and get the Mercedes Car with the Mercedes Targeting Device Tag on the hood and then get the Gatling Minigun and install it on the car then you can shoot directly on the other objects, Yeah very useful gizmo if you are interested of the idiotic cheap tuning for your car. I was have hope like Scotty will show something much more interesting high end and even useful.

  14. Hey Scotty become an Amazon affiliate, if you haven’t already, be fore it’s to late. Haha thanks for all the knowledge SIR.

  15. Why the hell does this guy yell at the top of his lungs when he yells lol. The best part is he has a link for a mic he uses on his cam so he knows that the camera has good sound quality but he is still yelling so loud haha.

  16. You can accomplish the same thing by buying an OBD2 Bluetooth adapter to connect to your smartphone using TORQUE app. You can set up the screen anyway you want, using the available OBD2 codes. TORQUE also reads trouble codes and can clear them.

  17. I installed this unit in my 2000 toyota celica, it worked fine for about a week then I noticed that the airbag light stays on whenever it's plugged in. should I be concerned?

  18. Scotty, How is it a "good safety feature" when it's one more thing in your line of sight of the road in front of you. These newer cars (it's April 2019 now) all seem to have all sorts of literal "bells and whistles and lights" that will find their way to distract a driver. Do we really need to know how fast we're going all the time or the RPM for just commuting to work or a long Sunday drive or vacation trip? What's the real purpose and need for such a "heads-up display?"

  19. Hey Scotty when I was a little kid I would stay at my aunt and uncles house a couple of weekends a year which gave my parents a break from me for them to go out and enjoy themselves and and my aunt Irene and uncle Carl were never able to have children so they loved to have one of the nieces or nephews to take care of and spoil. Which if it was you it was great. Anyway I used to love to go running around with my uncle and he always love a big ole Buick and I remember when he had the one that the speedometer was like a bright green line to a certain speed then changed to bright yellow and then bright orange and finally when you were going like hell it was finally a bright red and that in itself was one of the neatest things I had ever seen and loved it! But the total topper of all that was they had invented some way of reflecting it up onto the windshield of the car! They were the only cars that I ever remember doing that and when you were little like I was then you could sit and watch that thing for ever. Do you or any of your viewers remember this and I guess did they think it was the greatest thing since Frosted Flakes like I did or not? Because these were both of that era and as we all know "There Great"
