How To Resurface a Brake Disc Rotor

How To Resurface a Brake Disc Rotor

hi everybody
Randy Richard In the Shop today we have a twelve and a half
inch front brake rotor off of my son’s Toyota pickup he’s putting on
new brake pads and stuff on so these needed to be turned this one is
done just to give you a quick show here and full swing around we’ll do the other
one on the way this is what it looks like with the hub
there’s a hub part we’re first first side we’re doing we’re doing this side
first grabbing it on on the outside of the hub and we’re zeroing the run out
face run out on the inside of the wear bolts up against the axle plate you know
for the where the studs are I just want to show you this first came out really
nice just beautiful finish we only took off
one side we took off 15 and when inside we took off ten thousands to clean them
up and we’re still within the minimum word 26 millimeter minimum and we’re
twenty six point six so plenty plenty of room there so I’ve grabbed the hub on the other
side and we cleaned up the face of course inside here we have a mushroom
head on the dial indicator and we’re running that around and and I really
lucked out on this one i I didn’t even have to tap it and I’m within one
thousand of run out so that’s about prize amount of goods we’re going to get
that and I’m happy with a thousand and then we’re going to take cut on this
then we’ll flip it around and we’re going to grab it by this ring right here
this rim and parallel it up to this side the I’ll indicate off of the side or the
other cut and hopefully we won’t stay within the minimum outside yeah or turn it 355 rpm I have a waa-waa mg
432 insert in zero off on that RIM little adds it builds up from we’re
outside our rim or just that’s we’re going to call our zero from now dial
indicator on the carriage we go in ten thousands for the first cut my shield
keep shift around to Shane I didn’t take off anything we will call that zero I think we’ll be good on this cleanup it
looks quiet bringing up all night that’s pretty nice beautiful
cleaned up with one cut that’s great it should measure break at least three
places around the diameter and we’re twenty six point nine twenty six point
eight eight five you know in writing writing they’re millimeters plenty of
room on the other side to take a little bit off the other disk we ended up only
six point six jaws are grabbing on the inside and I have a button head now the
button head using a bite head because that average is out reading especially
on that rougher a little bit rougher surface on the inside here if it were a
little corrosion or rust even though we cleaned it up it’s still not too smooth
this now there’s now this face is nice and smooth we just turned it forty
thousand s going to tap this around try to get it down mm or less face run-out
far as concentricity goes will be within a few couple thousands my Chuck is
pretty good and that really is not a big factor a couple thousand six would be
nothing for your a brake pad if it if it’s moving a tiny tiny bit I don’t know
what a lathe machine I mean a brake machine
what kind of run out you actually get with those and face to face and all that
so if we’re within a thousand I’m pretty happy with everything yeah what’s I think about this we’re
going to get I need to get me out I need to get me a lead knockers what I need
did this is a dead blow hammer but they still have a little bit of Bounce
compared to a piece of lamb but that’s right that’s within to about one half
call that good alright call that zero since our other
one cleaned up with ten I think just shy of ten maybe eight oh gosh cleaning it up
ah perfect now we’re into the where it was cut
before they didn’t cut very deep and that’s down into Kali the first time
it was cut and we’re just going to clean it all the way to the rim there are that
one line and call it good twenty six seven twenty six seven twenty six seven
one so within a couple hundredths of a
millimeter beautiful came out nice perfect finish let’s put them on will be
it okay here’s the two discs ready to go really really happy with them they came
off just really really nice will be a good there and we’re gonna put them on
