Jeep Wrangler JK Coyote 1.5 in. Aluminum Wheel Spacer Kit Review & Install


Hey, what’s up guys? Ryan here from ExtremeTerrain, and today I’m
here with the Coyote 1.5-inch aluminum wheel spacer kit, fitting your 2007 to 2018 Jeep
Wrangler JK. This is for those of you that want a quality
spacer that is just gonna give you a little bit of an offset. Now, these are reasonably priced, you’re gonna
get all four spacers in this kit, and it’s coming in right around $130, which I think
is pretty average and pretty good for the kit. Some of the other options are right around
the same, but you’re only gonna buy them in pairs, and this one comes with all four. Now, when running larger tires on the factory
wheels you can have some rubbing issues, and that’s because of the offset. Those factory wheels are designed to stay
tight, and of course, accommodate that factory size tire. When you’re turning, the added width of those
aftermarket tires, of course, can rub on suspension components, and that’s something that we don’t
want. Now, of course, there is always the option
of going with an aftermarket wheel, but aftermarket wheels are gonna cost a lot more, and if that
is just not in your budget, or if you like the way that your factory wheels look and
you’re just trying to throw some larger tires on there, this is a very affordable fix, and
it’s a lot more cost-efficient than buying new wheels, getting them mounted and balanced,
so on and so forth. Now these are going to space the wheels out
one and a half inches, allowing you to run these factory wheels with those larger, wider
tires, and this is gonna ensure that you won’t rub. These are going to widen your stance, so it’s
gonna give you a little bit more stability when you’re out there on the trails or if
you’re just driving on the highway. Now you can space out aftermarket wheels as
well. If you have aftermarket wheels, you wanna
space those out, give yourself an even wider stance, a more aggressive appearance, and
just add to the whole stability of it, that is a possibility with those as well. Now, one of the nice things that I like about
these, these are hub-centric. Now what that means is this inside is actually
gonna sit on the end of the hub, that’s gonna take all that shear force off of the studs. When you’re bouncing around on the trails,
when you’re running those larger wheels and tires, you add a lot of downforce to the studs,
and that’s something that you can shear those right off. However, with these, you’re not really gonna
have that issue because it’s gonna be held nice and tight and centered by the middle. Now these are made from 6061-T6 aluminum,
so that makes them very lightweight, very corrosion resistant, and it makes them very
strong as well. These are coated in a black powder coating,
and that’s gonna add to the corrosion protection of this whole system, it’s also gonna make
them blend into that black axle and just all that factory paint. Now the studs on these are made from 1045
heat-treated carbon steel. So these are very strong studs, they’re really
gonna hold up under abuse, you’re not gonna deal with breakages, you’re not gonna shear
the studs off and have your wheel roll away from you, that’s the last thing that we want
when you’re in the off-road. One thing you need to worry about when running
spacers is going to be tire poke. Some states are really strict on the tire
poke. And if you add these to a factory wheel or
if you add them to an aftermarket wheel, your tires just sticking out out from under the
fender flares, that’s something that’s not really legal in certain states, so you just
wanna keep an eye on that and keep in mind on that. Another thing you wanna keep in mind when
running wheel spacers is going to be the ball joints. You’re sticking the wheel and tire out further,
and that’s causing a lot of stress on those ball joints. So if you have the factory ones, you’re running
a really large tire, you may wanna think about heavy-duty aftermarket ball joints. The last thing you wanna do, once again, is
shear a ball joint off, wear those things out really fast, and have that breakdown on
the trail. Now this is relatively easy to install. If you can take your wheels and tires off
then you can install these on, they bolt right onto the hub. So I am gonna give this a one out of three
wrenches on the difficulty meter. If you take your time, this should take you
only about an hour to get all these installed. So with all that being said, let’s hop into
our install. Tools we used for this install: torque wrench,
pry bar, 1/2-inch drive impact, 19-millimeter socket, Phillips-head screwdriver. Now this is something that you can do in your
driveway at home. All I did was just jack up one side of the
axle, pulled the wheel and tire off, and then we’re gonna bolt these things on. So these are gonna come with brand new lug
nuts. And the way this is gonna work, you’re just
gonna slide it right over top of that, then we’re gonna take those brand new lug nuts
that they gave us and we’re gonna install them in here, we’ll torque them down to factory
specs, and then all we have to do after that is just throw our wheel entire back on. So let’s get to it. So we get all these nuts started by hand,
that way we don’t cross thread anything. You don’t need to use Loctite on them, you
torque them to the proper specs shouldn’t have any issue with these things coming loose. After we get them all started, we’ll take
a 19-millimeter socket, we’re just gonna run them in. Now torque specs are gonna vary. Torque specs in the factory manual for factory
specs they’re gonna be anywhere from 85 foot-pounds to 125 foot-pounds, so you just wanna look
up what yours are for your particular model. I’m gonna torque these to 110 foot-pounds. Now, of course, this thing is gonna spin when
we go to tighten this up and torque it down. So there’s a couple ways that you can do this,
you can take a pry bar and stick it in between two of these studs, sit it on the ground or
have someone hold it while you torque it, or, what I’m gonna do is just take a screwdriver,
I’m gonna put it right in here inside of the rotor, and that way when this goes to spin
it’s just gonna stop it from spinning. All right. So what you wanna do is just go in a star
pattern, just like your wheels. Once you get the spacers on, they’re torqued
down, you wanna throw your wheels and tires back on, torque them back down to factory
specs, and then you’re good to go. So that is gonna wrap up my review and install. For more videos and products like this, keep
