Know Your Toyota: Toyota Entune 3.0 – App Suite Connect: Scout GPS Link (Part 2)


[Upbeat music plays] As part of Toyota Entune App Suite Connect in your Toyota vehicle, Scout GPS Link is a portable, web-based tool to help you plan your activities and navigate your way to virtually any destination quickly and easily. To begin to use Scout GPS Link, first make sure your compatible phone is connected to the vehicle via Bluetooth, a simple task accomplished using the Pairing function, or connect by USB cable for full functionality including an interactive map. Scout GPS Link is a free download from the Apple App Store for iPhone or Google Play store for your android device. Included in the download is a free three year trial subscription, after which a monthly subscription fee is required to continue using Scout GPS. Once installed, the Scout GPS Link icon will appear in your Toyota Entune app catalogue
Once installed, the Scout GPS Link icon will appear in your Toyota Entune app catalogue alongside the other valuable apps in the App Suite, such as Yelp and Slacker. To launch Scout GPS, press the menu button on the multimedia display, and then tap Apps and then the Scout GPS Link icon, or use the talk button on your steering wheel to activate the voice recognition system and say “Launch Scout.” If you’re connected via Bluetooth, you’ll see icons for Search, Nearby and Favourite on the opening screen. You’ll also notice that there are icons you can tap for Home and Work. Before you enter details, the icons will say “tap to add,” you can follow the prompts to enter your home or work address. Once entered, you just tap the icon anytime from wherever you are to be guided back. Once you’re en-route to your destination, you’ll also notice a bar at the bottom of the screen that displays your destination, as well as the estimated time left until you get there. When you tap “nearby,” you’ll be presented with icons for a variety of popular points of interest arranged by category, such as gas stations, coffee shops and ATMs. Use the arrow or swipe to proceed to the next screen for more options. Once you select a category for your destination, you’ll be presented with a numbered list of options that include the name, the address and your distance, starting with the location closest you. Select a destination, and the split-screen display will show you the basic shape of your route on the right and, on the left, its address and an option to “favourite” the destination by tapping the star icon, making it easier to access next time, and to call the location if you need to make reservation, or to select as a route again. You can also tap the “go” bar to navigate there right away using the most efficient route as selected by the system. By tapping route, you can select from up to three options, which include their respective drive times based on current traffic conditions. To enter a known destination, start by tapping “search” and entering the address on the touchscreen keypad. You can also choose to enter a point of interest category here if you’d like, and then make your selection from the list of options presented. For convenience, the system uses auto-finish to help you enter your selection if you see what you’re looking for, just tap it to complete your selection quickly or use the touchscreen keypad to enter the entire address and then tap search. When navigation begins, the system provides turn-by-turn directions to your destination, with your most immediate upcoming turns highlighted for easy visibility. You will receive auditory prompts as well.Exit to the right and then keep left.If you change your mind once underway, use the “x” to exit navigation, and then confirm your choice by tapping OK or you can use “cancel” to stay with the selected route. The settings icon in the upper right corner allow you to enter or edit your home and work addresses, change the display screen lighting from day to night or let it change automatically as lighting conditions change, as well as clear your favourite list. Using a USB cable to connect your phone to Toyota Entune enables the interactive map feature, replacing turn-by-turn display activated via Bluetooth. Now when you do a category search, you’ll see the options displayed visually on the map screen as circles. You can still select from a variety of available routes. Once navigation begins, you’ll get the same highlighted next turns, plus a scrolling map on the right side, on which you can use the plus and minus signs to zoom out and in. The ellipses (…) icon lets you configure your settings however you want, including muting verbal prompts, turning predictive traffic off or on, configuring the map display to 2D, 3D or North Up, and choosing day, night or auto settings for your visual experience.
