Lafayette residents concerned car dealership development could cause flooding in their neighborhood

Tuesday the Lafayette City Parish Council will consider Appeals for a zoning plan to build a car dealership lot off Johnston Street but people who live nearby that development say it could cause more flooding problems and as Josh many reports the dealership disagrees Canberra Drive may soon see more cars if a car dealership gets its way infiniti of Lafayette wants to build a new lot in the area that has residents worried right behind us right back here there is a Coulee that whenever we get a little bit of heavy rain it has trouble draining Kyle Burke lives in the Canberra neighborhood he says a new car lot with lower property values and cause more flooding this field back here is what holds a lot of our water and putting a cement forest right here behind us is only gonna exacerbate any flooding that we already get around here so it’s it’s not a good idea Bork’s neighbor Amy Robinson agrees I have set in Council meeting after council meeting where the city has begged the council to slow down development because their homes are flooding not once but twice the same homes and they look at a 7 acre inventory overflow lot and just give it a green light the residents of Canberra have been fighting the development of a 7 acre parking lot since December it’s being proposed as an overflow inventory lot for a nearby car dealership even though they’ve been going to zoning planning and council meetings they’ve been turned down and the project has been given final plat approval the dealership says it’s working with engineers to make sure the neighborhood has proper drainage we certainly understand the concern for the flooding given recent events however we wouldn’t even be allowed to build unless our engineers and our design team can meet the the building codes set forth by the city they say they’ll make sure Canberra’s residents have nothing to worry about we’re gonna make sure we do things the right way we want to be good neighbors and you’re not gonna see that it’ll be done right in Lafayette Josh many KTC tv3
