Local Car Dealerships Wipes Out Lunch Debt

TEAM. A LOCAL CAR DEALERSHIP SAW A NEED IN THE COMMUNITIES IT SERVES AND DROVE UP TO THE PLATE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. THE DEALERSHIP DONATED MORE THAN $60,000 TO THREE SCHOOL DISTRICTS. BRENDA WATERS WAS THERE AS THE SUPERINTENDENTS WENT HOME TODAY WITH CHECKS IN HAND. THE TOYOTA GRASSROOTS FUND HAS GIVEN US A BIG OPPORTUNITY TO HELP OUT SOME OF OUR NEIGHBORS. Reporter: WITH THAT SAID IT WAS TIME TO HAND OUT THE CHECKS. NEW BRIGHTON STARTED A WEEKEND BACKPACK PROGRAM FOR STUDENTS WHERE AT RISK OF NOT GETTING A MEAL ON THE WEEKENDS. BARYL TOYOTA DONATED $20,000 TO INSURE THAT PROGRAM IS SUCCESSFUL. SO WE WILL HAVE A BACKPACK THAT WILL GO HOME WITH SOME OF OUR STUDENTS THAT WILL HAVE SOME OF THEIR ESSENTIALS TO COVER MEALS OVER THE WEEKEND. Reporter: CHECK NUMBER TWO, BEAVER FALLS HAS AN EMERGENCY FUND THAT IS DESIGNED TO FEED HOMELESS STUDENTS. THIS DISTRICT ALSO RECEIVED $20,000. WE HAVE A GREAT NEED WITHIN OUR DISTRICT AND WE HAVE ABOUT AN AVERAGE OF 50 HOMELESS STUDENTS A YEAR, YES. SO WE HAVE A GREAT NEED. THIS WILL BE TRULY AN ASSET TO THOSE STUDENTS. Reporter: HERE IN ELLWOOD CITY THE DISTRICT HAD AN UNPAID SCHOOL LUNCH BALANCE OF MORE THAN $22,000. WHILE THAT HAS ALL BEEN PAYED IN FULL AND THOSE STUDENTS IN NEED WILL START THE SCHOOL YEAR WITH A CLEAN SLATE. HOPEFULLY BY THE END OF NEXT WEEK EVERY KID WILL HAVE A ZERO DEBT. SO THEY WON’T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THAT PROBLEM ANYMORE. Reporter: CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND AN A PLUS TO BARYL TOYOTA. WHEN WE RECOGNIZED THAT OUR NEIGHBORS, ELLWOOD CITY, BEAVER FALLS AND NEW BRIGHTON, HAD THAT NEED, WE WERE HAPPY TO
