Not guilty plea for bus driver charged in 9 year-old girl’s death

I’M RICH TETTEMER… THE BUS DRIVER ACCUSED IN THE DEATH OF 9 YEAR OLD SUMMER STEELE OF PLAINFIELD WAS IN COURT THIS MORNING. 22NEWS REPORTER KAIT WALSH WAS THERE FOR HIS ARRAIGNMENT …AND SPOKE WITH THE FAMILY’S LAWYERS. KAIT: TENDZIN PARSONS OF HAWLEY PLEADED NOT GUILTY THIS MORNING IN HAMPSHIRE COUNTY DISTRICT COURT ON A CHARGE OF NEGLIGENT MOTOR VEHICLE HOMICIDE. THE 70-YEAR-OLD WAS DRIVING THE SCHOOL BUS THAT SUMMER STEELE WAS ON WHEN SHE GOT STUCK IN THE DOOR ON OCTOBER 28TH OF LAST YEAR. SHE WAS DRAGGED AND LATER RUN OVER BY THE BUS, AND DIED FROM HER INJURIES. SHE WAS A STUDENT AT SANDERSON ACADEMY. AFTER THE ARRAIGNMENT, TWO BENCHES FULL OF PEOPLE LEFT THE COURTROOM: THEY IDENTIFIED THEMSELVES AS FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF THE STEELES. 22NEWS SPOKE WITH THE STEELE FAMILY’S LAWYERS ABOUT THIS TRAGEDY. KERRY: “THEIR HEARTS ARE BROKEN, THEIR LIVES ARE SHATTERED, THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN TO ANY CHILD.” KAIT: PARSONS WAS ALLOWED TO LEAVE COURT, BUT CAN’T DRIVE, CAN’T LEAVE THE COUNTRY, AND CAN’T LEAVE MASSACHUSETTS WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM THE PROBATION DEPARTMENT. KAIT: PARSONS IS SCHEDULED TO BE BACK IN COURT FOR HIS PRETRIAL HEARING
