Port of Los Angeles: Bus Crush

We’re here today to celebrate the
crushing of a diesel bus. The Port of Los Angeles and Harbor Community Benefit Foundation have
really formed a partnership to collaborate to create a cleaner environment for the communities we serve.
The benefit goes directly to Wilmington and and San Pedro, and by crushing this bus, we take it off the
road so that there’s no doubt that it won’t go to another community The grant that was given out and
approved by the Board of Harbor Commissioners from the Port of LA, was eighty-five thousand dollars to the Boys and Girls Club and they used that money by two CNG buses, which serve 23 sites Without us this metal would go to a landfill and our landfills would be full. We divert
millions and millions of tons of tons of material out of the landfills every year. So it’s a
very vital role we play here. it’s so easy to make metal from this
metal you just melt it and it’s so much less polluting to the
environment to do that. The Port of Los Angeles is here today to support
Harbor Community Benefits Foundation. We’ve given them over 1.3 million
dollars of funding and this is a great example of what they can do
with the community
