Schools implement new bus stop signs

MARGARET: WE ARE IN STOKES COUNTY, WHERE TECHNICIANS BEGAN INSTALLING THESE NEW STOP ARMS TODAY.>>ONLY EIGHT MORE TO GO. MARGARET: THE NEW EXTENDED ARMS ARE SIX AND A HALF FEET LONG, COMPARED TO JUST 18 INCHES ON MOST SCHOOL BUSES RIGHT NOW, THAT DRIVERS COMPLAIN THEY CAN’T SEE. SCHOOL OFFICIALS HERE SAY THESE LONGER ARMS SHOULD HELP SOLVE THAT PROBLEM. THEY WILL STRETCH FROM THE BUS ALL THE WAY OVER IN THE OTHER LANE OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE ARMS HAVE TWO STOP SIGNS THAT LIGHT UP. THEY WILL BE RIGHT IN THE DRIVER’S FACE. THEY CAN’T GET PAST THE BUS WITHOUT HITTING THE ARM. 300 OF THEM ARE GOING ON BUSES ACROSS THE STATE, 25 HERE IN STOKES. GUILFORD, WILKES, AND YADKIN COUNTIES ARE ALSO GETTING SOME. NORTH CAROLINA HAS MORE THAN 3100 STOP ARM VIOLATIONS A DAY. 14 CHILDREN HAVE BEEN KILLED SINCE 1999.>>MORE KIDS ARE GOING TO GET KILLED, AND IF THIS EXTENDED STOP ARM CAN SAVE CHILDREN, IF IT CAN SAVE JUST ONE, IT IS MORE THAN WORTH IT.>>IT IS AN EPIDEMIC. WE WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE NUMBER DOWN TO 01 DAY. ANYTHING WE CAN DO TO RAISE AWARENESS, TO FORCE PEOPLE TO PAY ATTENTION TO THE SCHOOL BUSES, IS A GOOD THING. MARGARET: THE BUSES WITH THE NEW ARMS HIT THE ROAD HERE NEXT

  1. What about this bus drivers who when they put their stop sign on is too early and still too dark to see it but they don't Flash the lights they should be held accountable for that and the drivers who blankly this obey the stop sign should be held accountable as well because I see people in the day time doing and I think they should have to Flash it at night it's impossible to see on some streets
