Toyota Corolla Spark Plug Replacement | Coil Replacement | 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015

SPARK PLUG SOCKET NEEDED 9/16THS SO USUALLY
ON THIS 1.8L TOYOTA ENGINE THERE IS A TOP ENGINE COVER ALL YOU HAVE TO DO TO GET THAT
COVER OFF IS JUST PULL IS STRAIGHT UP AND OFF THERES LITTLE CLAMPS THAT IT LOCKS INTO
BUT IT JUST COMES STRAIGHT UP AND OFF JUST PULL IT STRAIGHT UP AND YOU WILL HAVE IT OFF
ALRIGHT GUYS BUNDYS GARAGE BUNDY HERE HEY I’M GOIN TO SHOW YOU GUYS HOW YOU GUYS CAN
SAVE A BUNCH OF MONEY BY SWITCHING YOUR INSURANCE TO GEICO NO I’M JUST KIDDING YOUR GOING TO
SAVE A BUNCH OF MONEY BY DOING THE SPARK PLUGS BY YOURSELF YOU CAN DO THIS ANYBODY CAN DO
THIS IT’S NOT HARD GRANDMA CAN DO THIS THIS IS A 1.8L ON A TOYOTA COROLLA THIS WILL COVER
FROM 2009 TO 2015 BUT YOU WILL ALSO FIND THIS ENGINE IN THE PRIUS MATRIX SOME OF THE SCION
APPLICATIONS XD IQ THE PONTIAC VIBE AND THE LEXUS CT200H SO THIS JOB IS NOT HARD AT ALL
SO A COUPLE OF THINGS THAT WE ARE GOING TO NEED YOUR GOING TO NEED A SPECIAL 9/16THS
3/8THS SPARK PLUG SOCKET YOUR GOING TO NEED SOME ANTI SEIZE RIGHT THERE YOUR GOING TO
NEED 4 NGK SPARK PLUGS AND YOUR GOING TO NEED SOME DI-ELECTRIC GREASE SO I’M GOING TO SHOW
YOU I’M GOING TO SHOW YOU HOW TO DO THIS ON ONE CYLINDER YOU HAVE 4 CYLINDERS ONE TWO
THREE FOUR BUT THERE EXACTLY ALL THE SAME NOW YOU MIGHT RUN INTO THIS LIKE I DID THIS
PLASTIC COWL KIND OF GETS IN THE WAY BUT ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS PUSH UP YOU DON’T NEED A
LOT OF TOOLS TO DO THIS THERES 4 10MM BOLTS 1 2 3 4 AND THEN YOU NEED A 3/8THS RATCHET
EXTENSION AND A 9/16THS 3/8THS SPARK PLUG SOCKET WHICH I GOT RIGHT HERE OK SO THE FIRST
THING YOU NEED TO DO YOU HAVE THESE CONNECTORS HERE RIGHT THAT GO INTO THE COIL PACK THIS
IS YOUR COIL PACK THIS IS THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR NOW MOST OF THE TIME YOU CAN PUSH HERE AND
PULL IT UP TOWARDS THAT WAY UP AND OUT SO AS YOUR PUSHING YOU NEED TO LEAD IT UP AND
OUT BUT YOU CAN SEE RIGHT HERE RIGHT WHERE MY FINGER TIP IS IF I CAN GET THE CAMERA TO
FOCUS THE PART THAT THE CLIP GOES OVER SOMETIMES DOES NOT ALWAYS CLEAR IT WHEN YOUR PUSHING
ON THE TAB SO YOU CAN EITHER GET A PICK OR YOUR CAN STEAL YOUR WIFES OR YOUR MOMS SILVERWARE
GET A DON’T DO THIS TOO HARD OR YOU MIGHT SNAP THAT PLASTIC PIECE OFF JUST GET YOUR
SILVERWARE A KNIFE AT THE SAME TIME AS YOUR PUSHING HERE GIVE IT A LITTLE NUDGE A LITTLE
LOVE NUDGE RIGHT THERE WITH YOUR BUTTER KNIFE AND IT COMES OUT SO LET ME SHOW YOU HOW TO
DO THAT REAL QUICK OK SO AS YOU COME IN HERE IF YOU CAN’T IF YOUR HAVING DIFFICULTIES PULLING
THIS UP AND OUT AS YOUR PUSHING ON IT BRING YOUR KNIFE IN HERE JUST EASE IT UP A LITTLE
YOU’LL SEE IT WHEN IT ACTUALLY CLEARS AND THERE YOU GO TRY NOT TO BREAK THIS CLIP INSIDE
HERE ITS JUST KIND OF A BUMMER WHEN THESE THINGS SNAP BECAUSE THEY DON’T THERE SUPPOSE
TO STAY LOCKED IN PLACE ON THE COIL PACK AND YOU DON’T WANT TO SNAP THEM BECAUSE IF YOU
SNAP THEM THEY WON’T STAY IN PLACE OR THEY SHOULD STAY IN PLACE YOU JUST RUN THE RISK
OF THEM COMING OUT OR AFTER VIBRATIONS I DON’T KNOW HOW MANY MILES THEY JUST MIGHT WORK THEMSELVES
OUT IF IT’S NOT ABLE TO LOCK ITSELF INTO PLACE GET THE 10MM BOLT OUT NOW YOU REPEAT THIS
3 MORE TIMES FOR THE REST OF THE COILS AND THE COIL PACKS AND THE COIL PACK BOLT IF THE
COIL PACK HAD BEEN ON FOR A LONG TIME JUST MOVE IT BACK AND FORTH WIGGLE IT UP AND OUT
AND THEN LIKE I SAID YOU MIGHT HAVE TO PUSH THE JUST HOLD UP THE COWL TIGHT HERE TO GET
THE COIL PACK CLEAR I DON’T THINK A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT BUNDYS GARAGE ON YOUTUBE
SO IF YOU FIND THIS VIDEO HELPFUL PLEASE SUBSCRIBE IT REALLY HELPS ME OUT AND IF YOU CAN SHARE
THIS VIDEO WITH SOMEONE THAT YOU KNOW OR SOMEONE THAT YOU LOVE THAT HAS A TOYOTA COROLLA WITH
A 1.8 LITER OR ANY OF THE OTHER VEHICLES THAT I MENTIONED AT THE BEGINNING OF THE VIDEO
GO AHEAD SHARE IT WITH THEM ON FACEBOOK OR TWITTER NEXT THING YOUR GOTTA GET A 6 INCH
3/8THS EXTENSION GET YOUR SPARK PLUG SOCKET HERE GO AHEAD WORK THAT DOWN ONCE AGAIN YOU
MIGHT HAVE TO LIFE UP THIS COWLING AND IT’S ON THE SPARK PLUG RIGHT THERE YOU GOT A 3/8THS
WRENCH RIGHTY TIGHTY LEFTY LOOSEY OK POPPED OFF VERY EASILY JUST TAKE YOUR JUST
GETTING IT LOOSE BY HAND WORK IT UP AND OUT THERES THE OLD SPARK PLUG ALRIGHT NGK THESE
ARE IRIDIUM THE PART NUMBER HERE IS ILKAR7B11THE SAME EXPACT SPARK PLUGS THAT I PICKED UP FROM
O’REILLY AUTO PARTS ILKAR7B11 OK SO THESE ALREADY COME PRE GAPPED SO YOU DON’T HAVE
TO WORRY ABOUT THAT A COUPLE THINGS I DO LIKE TO DO IS MAKE SURE YOU CHECK RIGHT HERE BETWEEN
ONE THING I LIKE TO DO BEFORE I PUT SPARK PLUGS IN AND THIS HAPPENED TO ME ON A CHEVY
I PICKED THE SPARK PLUGS UP FROM A CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND THERE WAS A TINY LITTLE CRACK BETWEEN
THE METAL RIGHT HERE AND THE PORCELAIN RIGHT HERE IT WAS CRACKED SO I ACTUALLY INSTALLED
IT AND I GOT A MISFIRE AND I CHASED MY TAIL FOR A DAY TRYING TO FIND THIS MISFIRE ALWAYS
MAKE SURE YOU ROTATE THIS 360 DEGREES ON ALL THE SPARK PLUGS YOU DO YOU PICK UP MAKE SURE
THERE ARE NO CRACKS IN THE PORCELAIN BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE PARTS HOUSE SO I LIKE TO PUT
ANTI SEIZE ON THE TREADS OF THE SPARK PLUGS SO I GOT MY ANTI SEIZE HERE JUST PUT A LITTLE
BIT ON MY FINGER A LITTLE BIT ON THE SPARK PLUG JUST WORK IT AROUND AND THEN ANOTHER
THING I LIKE TO DO ONCE I START ONCE I’M GOING TO PUT THE COIL PACK BACK INTO PLACE I’LL
GO AHEAD GET SOME DI-ELECTIC GREASE I’LL JUST TAKE A LITTLE BIT OF DI-ELECTRIC GREASE GO
AHEAD PUT IT IN THERE IN THE BOTTOM OF THE COIL PACK SO THAT WAY WHEN THE COIL PACK COMES
INTO CONTACT WITH THE SPARK PLUG YOU HAVE A NICE SOLID CONNECTION FOR ELECTRICITY TO
GO INTO ONE TRICK THAT I LIKE TO DO WHEN I PUT IN NEW SPARK PLUGS AND SO I DON’T CROSS
THREAD THE SPARK PLUG DOWN IN THE HOLE IS I’LL GO AHEAD AND I’LL GET A 5/16THS HOSE
THIS IS ABOUT 6 7 INCHES I’LL GO AHEAD AND INSTALL THE SPARK PLUG I’LL DO THIS WITH EACH
AND EVERY ONE GO AHEAD INSTALL THE SPARK PLUG ON THE END OF THE HOSE AND THEN I GUIDE THE
HOSE AND THE SPARK PLUG DOWN WITH THE HOSE AND GET IT STARTED THAT WAY I’VE SEEN GUYS
DROP THESE DOWN IN THERE I’VE SEEN GUYS START THESE WITH AIR TOOLS AND I JUST CRINGE WHENEVER
I SEE THAT BECAUSE YOU CAN OBVIOUSLY IF YOU DROP IT DOWN THERE AND IT HITS THE SIDE THEN
YOU RUN THE RISK OF IT ACTUALLY CLOSING THE GAP OR DAMAGING IT SOMEHOW IF YOU RUN IT DOWN
WITH AIR TOOLS THEN YOU CAN RUN THE RISK OF CROSS THREADING THE SPARK PLUG AND YOU DO
NOT WANT TO CROSS THREAD THE SPARK PLUG DOWN IN THE HOLE INTO A SPARK PLUG TUBE CAUSE YOU
WILL BE HATING LIFE HATING LIFE SO I JUST START IT THAT WAY IT BOTTOMED OUT BRING BACK
IN MY 9/16THS SPARK PLUG SOCKET GET IT TO SEAT CORRECTLY THERE WE GO NOW THIS IS MORE
OF A FEEL THING INSTALLING NEW SPARK PLUGS YOUR GOING TO GO ABOUT A QUARTER OF A TURN
90 DEGREES FROM THE 3 O’CLOCK POSITION TO THE 6 O’CLOCK POSITION BUT DON’T OVER TIGHTEN
THESE THERE IS A TORQUE SPECIFICATION BUT I LIKE TO DO IT BY FEEL SO RIGHT ABOUT THERE
THAT’S GOOD RIGHT ABOUT THERE LET’S GO AHEAD AND BRING THAT BACK UP AND OUT YOU WILL ACTUALLY
FEEL THE CRUSH WASHER GO I’VE ALREADY PUT THE DI-ELECTRIC GREASE IN HERE SO GO AHEAD
PUT MY COIL PACK DOWN INTO PLACE BRING MY 10MM BOLT FOR THE COIL PACK BACK INTO PLACE
RUN THAT DOWN AND THEN YOUR GOING TO REPAST THIS STEP FOR ALL REMAINING 3 SPARK PLUGS
TIGHTEN THAT UP JUST SNUG IT UP THEN BRING YOUR ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR BACK IN OK MAKE
SURE THAT CLICKS MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A GOOD CONNECTION THERE BECAUSE IF YOU GO AHEAD AND
YOU START UP THE VEHICLE AFTER YOU DO THIS JOB AND THERES A MISFIRE THERES A VERY HIGH
CHANCE THAT YOU DODN’T PUT ONE OF YOUR CONNECTORS BACK ON THE COIL PACK SO

  1. Excelente vídeo maestro y bien explicado yo he aprendido gracias a usted y lo bueno que pone títulos en español y se puede leer lo que esta diciendo gracias maestro dios lo bendiga

  2. I’m new to your channel I own a Corolla thank you for the information I also subscribe to your channel

  3. Great job, precise and concise! One video suggested using compressed air to blow off this area BEFORE TAKING OUT THE PLUG ! Then he showed two bits of degree that could have been knocked onto the plug hole! I have never seen so much dirt and crap on an engine as was on mine.even a mouse nest so compressed air is the way to go,before I start. Thanks for your vid!

  4. My Corolla 2009 is showing engine light, with cylinder 2 misfire… what to do with this ??
    Is it something serious ??

  5. My 2014 Corolla has just hit 46K miles. My car feels fine and doesn't idle but I have noticed my gas being eaten yo quicker. You think I need to replace the plugs soon??
