Toyota GT86 / Scion FR-S v Nissan 370Z v Used Porsche Cayman S – /CHRIS HARRIS ON CARS

[LAUGHING] Yes! Yes, yes, yes! [SQUEALING TIRES] I think we’re going to be
friends, me and the GT 86. And so that was Spain about six
months ago on a flat track in what was a development car,
and now I’m in Wales. I’m on British, good,
old-fashioned A and B roads. And I want to see whether
the GT 86– if she lives up to the hype
on the public highway. Now I think, to conduct this
test accurately, there are three things I need to do. First of all, I need to drive
the car in isolation on the road to see how it rides, see
what it feels like, see whether that sort of
effervescent character comes through when you just live
with the car on the road. Second of all, I need to address
the rival situation. There are two parts to that. The first is that people keep
saying to me, look, it’s not the only rear-wheel drive
Japanese car you can buy for under 30,000 pounds. There’s a thing called
the Nissan 370Z. OK. So we brought one along,
and we’ll try one against the 370Z. But there’s another argument,
isn’t there? All you forum jockeys always
say, think how much Cayman you could buy for just
around 30,000. So in the interest of fair play
and to keep those voices quiet, we brought a
Cayman along, too. This, I think, could be a
very good day, indeed. Now in the interest of good
web TV, I’d like to start slowly and build to a crescendo
about how I love this car, but I haven’t got
time for all that bobbins. Fact is, I love this car. It’s brilliant. I’ll start from the top. In isolation, the numbers
are not impressive. 200 horsepower, 151 foot-pounds
of torque. OK, it’s light. 1,250 kilograms makes
that Nissan look like a right lard-ass. And it’s not very fast. I mean, 7.7 seconds to
62 miles an hour. Nothing to write home about. But the collection of parts, the
way it makes you feel on the road, the way it makes you
want to enjoy the car, there’s no set of numbers that
can describe that. This is one of the most exciting
cars I’ve driven all year on the road. I absolutely love it. I’ve been booting around Wales
for the last day, and I’ve just loved every minute of it. It’s that balance of not too
much grit, just enough performance. But it makes you work for it. And where it’s the complete
opposite to the Nissan is that this is a 10 Tenths car. It’s still enjoyable, all the
way up through that scale. But when you go for those
last couple of nuggets, it’s just fantastic. It comes alive. The steering is so accurate. This gear change is
just fantastic. And the motor, OK, it doesn’t
make the best noise, but it completely sings. So that’s 7,500-rpm red-line. Yeah, this is a great car. One criticism of this car is
that when we first drove it earlier in the year, we showed
lots of shots of it on the locked shots with some smoke
pouring off the tires. And everyone said,
you know what? On the road, you just can’t
drive like that. And do you know what? Of course you can’t
drive like that. What you can do is get into a
situation where you can feel the car move around, and I think
that’s the cleverest part of this package. Toyota has somehow engineered
a car that just yaws around and moves at the rear
axle a bit. Not so much that you actually
need to correct the car too much, but that suggestion, that
message you get, is quite short in the Cayman. And in the Nissan, to do
something about corrective lock or sort yourself out, is
actually much longer in this, so you get to savor it. It says, do you know what? I’m just going to go sideways
a bit here. But actually, you don’t really
need to correct it a bit. It’s happening in the rear
suspension travel. Yes, if you want to go
a bit harder, it will properly move around. But you just feel like you’re
steering the car from the back axle, and you don’t worry
about the lack of torque too much. When you want to rev it out,
you just rev it out. There she goes. It’s not a brilliant noise, but
it’s an exciting engine, and it just does the job. It fits the chassis
characteristics really well. But I come back to that
feeling of yaw. Every time you go through a
faster corner, it just moves around a little bit. There’s a bit of slip
at the back. And that is what makes
us feel excited. And every time you come in to
the bowl of a corner or you hit the apex, you’re tempted
just to go, I know what. I’m just going to bash the
throttle a little bit harder, just to feel it move a
little bit like that. And that, that’s very difficult
to engineer into a car, so they’ve done a
great job with this. And you can’t describe
it through numbers. So yes, a KO 200 might well take
this apart in a straight line, but I just don’t care. I think this is a great
car, and I’ll repeat. I’ll repeat what I said
back in January. I think that the world needs
cheap rear-wheel drive cars. I think we need to get back to
a stage where we’re enjoying performance because
of its nature, not because of its quantity. Yeah, if anything, I’m more
excited about this now than I was then. Ah, there are some bad points. There are a couple. OK, first of all, first
of all, we have to say it’s not that fast. So people that want performance
are going to be disappointed, I think. Second of all, this cabin. Hm. There is some sort of textured
plastic that’s supposed to look like carbon fiber that
isn’t that great. I like the clock faces, and I
think everything’s good, and the information is coming
straight to me, but it’s not a special place to sit. And the trim materials are
average, even in comparison with the Nissan, which has got
some quite nice leather on its dashboard, it has to be said. The driving position is spot-on,
whereas the Nissan’s a bit aloof. You sit too high. You immediately get in this and
think, oh, there we go. Seat’s perfect. Steering wheel’s right
at my chest. Off we go. I suppose the real downside
is the list price. We all thought it was gonna
be 23,000, didn’t we? But it’s 24,995 basic. And this car, as tested, with,
let’s say, the infotainment system, the fancy seats, and
some metallic paint, it’s nearly 28,000. And is that too much money? On paper, it probably is, but
for the fun I’m having today, it probably isn’t. The 370Z is the classic
definition of the 8/10 car. Drive it up to 8/10, and it’s
really quite good fun. And you think to yourself, why
would you want any more? And you also think, at 29,000,
it makes the new GT 86 look a bit expensive because it’s
got this great big powerful V6 in it. It looks very pretty. And the interior, frankly,
makes the Toyotas look a bit cheap. But if you grab it by the scruff
of the neck, something quite strange happens
in this Nissan. It sort of falls to pieces. Now, some of you think I’m
being a bit harsh here. But the reality is, that when
you start to really push this Nissan, funny things happen. For example, the gear change
that feels quite sharp and quite easy when you’re going
along quite slowly and not trying, suddenly becomes a bit
obstructive and rubberized. It feels like it’s all set in
great big rubber mounts. The steering is inaccurate. It doesn’t really tell
you what’s going on. And the motor, it just gets
wheezy above 5,000 rpm. OK, it thrashes the
Toyota’s outputs. It’s got 328 horsepower,
and it’s got 267 foot-pounds of torque. But this car weighs
1,525 kilograms. It’s a big old lump. It just feels inaccurate
and not that much fun. It doesn’t make much
of good noise. Do you know what
I’m getting at? You buy a coupe to
be involved. And even though this serves
up greater quantities of performance, I’m not sure
they’re very nice. So what we have here is a great
big plate of not very good food, whereas the Toyota
is a smaller plate of much more expertly prepared
flavors. There’s some other subtle things
going on here as well. I like the sort of pared-back
feel to this car. It’s got cloth seats. And I do quite like
the dashboard. However, I can’t bring this
steering wheel close enough to my chest. The seat feels a bit wrong
related to the pedals. The whole thing is
not instinctive. And that’s the word that you can
apply to both the Porsche and the Toyota. They’re instinctive
sports cars. You get in them, and you
immediately think, yeah, this is right. And I don’t quite in this car. And I haven’t got a downer on
this car, but I keep hearing people say, look, this new
Toyota thing, this Scion, whatever you want to call it. It’s not that great a value. It’s only got a little
force in the engine. You can get a Z for
the same money. But I’m driving them
back-to-back today on the same roads. And I’ll tell you what. I’m finding the little
car much more exciting than this thing. Now, on the one hand, you could
argue that bringing a Cayman along to this test is
a bit like having Michelle Pfeiffer turn up to the local
village beauty contest. But the fact is, Caymans are
now getting quite old. They’re used, and they’re worth
a lot less money than they once were. This car has done
77,000 miles. It’s pretty tired. It’s familiar to me. I’ve driven it before. And I reckon it’s worth what? 16,000, 17,000? So, actually, it’s too
cheap for this test. But it’s a Cayman, and the
owner, very kindly to let me drive it in a manner that I
think is good for video. So here we are. The Cayman S, 295 horsepower. This one is not standard. It has Bilstein PSS9’s on it,
for you geeks out there. It’s got a Quaife locking
diff in it and some other bits and bobs. And it’s got a Remus exhaust,
which makes this noise. We like. First things first. In terms of powertrain, this
car is on a completely different level to
the other two. I love the effervescence. I love the excitement that you
get in the Toyota and the way that it goads you
into driving it. And the fact is, this does the
same thing, and it’s just got more of everything,
everywhere. What about the handling
as a package? Well, it’s interesting,
isn’t it? The Cayman is all about
mechanical grip wheeling. It just grips coming into a
corner, because it’s got very little understeer, and it’s
so well-balanced. It’s got loads of traction
coming out of corners. What it doesn’t do is sort of
shimmy over the road and yaw and just slip about a bit
like the Toyota does. So in that respect, it’s
actually not quite as exciting as the little Toyota, which
I find remarkable. I have to say, though, if you
were going to buy a used sport car, I can’t think of why you’d
buy anything else unless you needed four seats because
this is just an exceptional motor vehicle. It does everything so well. The steering’s gorgeous. The powertrain’s gorgeous. I’m struggling to think
something bad about it. OK, the difference here
is quite simple. If you buy this car now at
77,000 miles, it’s probably got slightly scored boards. The gearbox is tired. It’s going to cost
you some money. The upside is what’s it going
to be worth in three or four years’ time? It can’t be worth less
than 10,000, I think. The downside is, of course, it’s
going to cost you some money to keep it on the road. And that’s the balance,
isn’t it? The Toyota, well, that
has a five-year Toyota warranty on it. You can’t really argue
with that. But then, this is a Porsche. A Cayman, over a really good
technical road, will always be something to savor. It’s just right. It’s agile. It’s enjoyable. It’s everything that
I want in a car. I’ll never tire of it. And as they get older, they
don’t seem to get much worse, these Caymans. This is a really, really
special car. And my 20,000 might well come
something near this. It’s supple over bumps. It doesn’t quite have the sort
of nose bob that a 911 does. It doesn’t chatter
away at you. But that means that you’ve
got more time to get the car turned in. You don’t have to sort
of second-guess the balance of the car. OK, it’s not as much
of a challenge as a 911, and I miss that. But it’s just a magnificent
package. It really is. Listen to this noise. [SHIFTING GEARS] For less than 20,000. That Toyota’s going to have to
be very special to match this. Very special. NARRATOR: The truth is, the Z
just doesn’t use its on-paper advantage the way you do. As a sports car, it should get
better the harder you push, but the opposite is true. It’s a great car to look
at, and it’s fast. But if you love driving, you’ll be better off elsewhere. Certainly, in a used Cayman,
which, as we all know, is one of the great bargains
of our time. Its only real downfalls are the
fact that it isn’t new, and therefore doesn’t have the
massive warranty promise of tiny running costs. And, of course, it only
has two seats. But the 86 is something
different altogether. There’s an effervescence about
the way it approaches life that gives its driver something
more than just a great motor and exciting
handing. It’s a car that, by force of
character, improves every journey and not by outright
speed, but by fun. And it’s made by the people
that give us the Prius. Sometimes, we have to remind
ourselves just how awesome the motor industry is. And the GT 86 is a car
does just that. Which one of these
would you have? This one. That’s the test, boys. Neil has spoken.

  1. in normal driving situations does the Gt86 rearend move when it shouldnt that would make it hard to have faith in it going round corners at normally speeds without the risk of a spin. i ask as im looking at getting one (they look awesome) but im not a great driver and it would be a daily so i would not be able to deal with a car skidding round bends at normal speeds

  5. Clearly doesn't know what he's on about with the Nissan, either that or he mixed up the Nissan and Toyota reviews. The toyota is a heap of underpowered shit with a cheap interior and useless rear seats all while essentially being a re-badged Subaru.

  6. Both of them should have been turbo from the factory, I know that the GT86 still is a great drivers car, but the additional torque a turbo provides is just missing.
    It's the same with the 350/370 z if you dyno them, none of them have 300 hp the torque isn't the best either. But you get all the drawbacks from the engine being big.

  7. One thing this video failed to address that while yes you can get a used low-mileage Cayman for around 30-40K you can get a used 370z for like 15K that's a year old,
    So at the end of the day this is really a comparison between the BRZ and the Z rather then the Cayman as good as it is.

    Oh also Sport package Z would have done much better.

  12. Jesus, this guy is a moron. I have been driving a few cars the past few weeks trying to decide what I want. I drive the BRZ and the 370Z, it’s not even close. The Z was better in every way. This guy is lying to cover up his bias.

  13. My heart was always with the 370z, and I have to decide whether 370z and a Subaru BRZ or 86 would be a vehicle that I could learn to tune and use as a cross platform in different practices. The 370z is just a cosmetically beautiful car but in regards to what is more important the 370z would be a very expensive car to learn and tune. I shutter at the fact that burning rubber would cost you 2x to 3x the amount compared to the BRZ or 86.

    It'll do skids without trying. Yes it's not quick and the interior is a tad rattly but I don't care, I love it. I make any excuse to go drive it.

    now if you compare the toyota gt86 against a porsche can you at least compare it to the right porsche like the porsche boxter and secondly why tha fuck do you drive the regular 370z when you are bringing the more refine and more aggressive track oriented cayman s and for the gt86 there are some upgrades to the suspension and chasis as well, so why not have the better option of the 370z as well, its almost like you were trying so hard to make look good the toyota gt86 against some of the best german engineering and against one of the best Japanese sports car out there.

    you may be thinking so what's a better comparasion for the brz frz or gt86?? well here you go a list of cars that are a fair comparison :
    1. Mazda mx5 or fiat 124 spider (same chasis).
    2. ford focus ( regular model because st or rs are overpowered )
    3. porsche boxter ( non s model, regular model )
    4. hyundai veloster ( non turbo model)
    5. Chevrolet Spark ACTIV CVT Hatchback.
    6. honda civic ( non type r because again overpower difference).

    and i can keep on thinking veichles that are on the same level as the gt86 in terms of performance not so much in luxury or refinement but in how fun is to drive it to the limit.

    and don't get me wrong the gt86 is a great car but not as good as the paint the picture and not as good as they make it look like, and i can speak with my own experience of me driving the dam thing. its slow as f , the front and back tyres are thin as f, but it make up for it by the good looking car that it is, because it is a real good looking car but that's it, that's the only thing it has in his favor in my own personal experience.

    if your thinking in buying one PLEASE DON'T embarrass yourself and don't waste $26,455 on the gt86 you can get better performance and quality and luxury elsewhere.

  17. Since the MR2 I drove about 20 years ago….I always had a weak spot for sporty, rear wheel drive Toyota’s.
    These days I drive a 2011 Mercedes C200 cdi with 286.000km on the clock, have a mortgage to pay and all those other rotten bills that push you with your nose on the fact that you’re a 42-year old grown up now….with responsibilities that, sadly, do not include some kind of sportscar.
    But in a few years, the house should be payed off and I will get rather a bit more financial breathing space. And as soon as it is possible I’m getting a Subaru BRZ or a GT86. And not to put it in the garage and take it for a sunday-spin…no, I will use that car every day and desperately keep telling myself I’m still in my twenties

    In typical Chris Harris Style ….I understand his critiques , not only that know he knows what he is talking about.
    I mean the Zed has needed a sharper pencil put to it on the design board , for along time now.
    Nissan has completely and totally lost its way. How a comoany can kill or hold its heros head under water so long is UNBELIEVABLE !
    Companys spend a life time to create ,the success and Branding Clout, the Z / Zed has….
    Instead of following Porsches lead build on the Zed like a flag ship. They use the fat over weight
    4 seater GT-R.
    In the USA Z cars have a rabbid following .Yet, year after year Nissan ignores ,the clamoring ,
    for a back to its roots ,Z.
    Yes they dont want to anyway step on the GT-R territory….
    But the Z is 2 seater / rear wheel drive. Keep the Z right where it is.
    Take the pork out of this car put your "top" designers on it…stop holding the Z in chains , Because some executive thinks a 4 seater all wheel drive heavy weight is "The Car to Have"
    Back in the Day Nissan Listened to the Buyer…its what ,MADE THEM .
    Stop ignoring the crys to save the Z ethos.. People will move on and abandon the Little Car that built an Empire.Some, already have.

  20. This dude test drove a base model 370z lmao. Not even got the sports package on it, the difference is huge, trust me I would know cause I own a 2017 370z Nismo. I would love for Chris to drive my Nismo and then give his opinions on it compared to the 86. Nismo brings in its in-house tuning and suspension from Yamaha, bigger brakes, upgraded aerodynamics, synchro rev match, bucket seats Alcantara and a lot more. If he drove that he would definitely have a change in opinion, I mean not only do I dust my two friends who have brz's and my one friend who has an FRS, but on the turns when we go backroading they can't keep up, I mean the Nismo brings in an insane track upgrade, I mean Nismo is a track company lmao they helped the skylines win all the races so it makes sense. However, I also wanted to mention how I felt a strong bias with Chris with the 86, as if Toyota had paid him and I'm seeing other people in the comments mention it too. Either way, don't use a base model z and compare it to the turning and racing feel when you could've at least got a sports package, grand touring, or even Nismo.

Top Gear was always more about entertainment than driving, and I loved your videos because they were more about driving than entertainment. We miss you dude

  22. The 370z sport automatic is faster and better than the base model manual you tested. There is no rubbery shifting, brakes are much bigger and better with 19” wheels. Have navigation and BOSE stereo systems. So the underpowered Toyota and outdated Porsche is no comparison to the 370Z I got. Added a Heads Up Display (HUD), had my factory wheels chromed, and wired turn signal LEDs in both side mirrors that are blue. Car is Magma Red Metallic with tinted windows…So If you remember the past Nissan commercials, this brings back that word again…Awesome!!!

  23. I love both the 86 and the 370z. Both are great cars created for different segments. If a person chooses an 86, it is because he/she falls into the segment the 86 was designed for. Likewise, if you prefer the 370z, then you are in the segment the 370z was designed for. It is really that simple. Enjoy the car for what it was designed for. If every car can be lined up and a single best car chosen, we will end up with 1 model, much like the Model T. God forbid that.

  24. What a joke, he used a loaded 86 against a base 370Z. In everyway comparison website the 86 is not even considered to go against a 370Z but is compared to the Miata instead lol.

    The z on the other hand has the power out of the box, and can be drastically improved with aftermarket suspension/tires/lsd

  26. The VQ engine is pretty rough.But it makes good power and is pretty proven. I've never driven the Toyota but I've driven the Porsche and I would take the Porsche over the nissan. Even though I drive an Infiniti QX70S with the VQ in it.

  27. The looks and power alone would have me sold on the 370z if a few more bucks wasn't an issue. I drive a g37 lowered on coil overs and I really feel like my car does not handle bad at all. I respect Chris Harris's opinion and recognize he's a professional driver but I do think this review was a bit biased. Still a fun watch.. thumbs up

  28. According to my birth certificate I’m a certified old fart senior citizen, unfortunately that fact does not compute in my brain. So what’s the point….I’m test driving a BRZ this afternoon potentially to buy. I’ve given up on my motorcycles they’re just not fun anymore and people drive like shit around here. So I need a new toy, one that will bring back very fond memories of the days I owned two 914’s, my absolute favorite cars. Back to basics and fun. Besides I still have a pretty awesome loaded 330HP A6 Quattro in the garage.

  29. I also had a big debate in my head wich to chose between Cayman and gt86 but for a 15k£ budget i Will chose a gt86 that is only 3 years old that has 30k miles, has back seats and more space in the interior for a 6'5" guy like me rather than
    the Cayman that is 12 years old, at least twice the milage and having the fear that it may need some repairs in the near future that Will cost a fortune becouse Porsche…

  31. Weird, I dont have trouble finding the gears in my 370z when driving flat out. Its not that hard as long as youre not a complete novice..

  32. Yeah my 350z only has 300hp, and its heavy… but I guess the power to weight ratio is still better than the gt86 if I'm gapping it in a straight line. My Z handles and grips just fine with my wide Nitto tires. Also my Z makes horny sounds when in drifting the intersection. I'll keep my Z lol

  33. The Toyota's paint is cheep and just tap the body with your finger to feel how thin the metal is. No wonder they have so many dents along the stone chips. Overall a cheep car that's not made to last long and it's slow and sounds like a coffee grinder. If you want speed don't buy the 86.
    The 370Z is not as mean as the the lder 350Z, and running costs are high, but it's fast and the engine tone is very sexy. It's the drift king. The cayman is a different level car altogether.

  35. I have own three of them the pass. The 370z is fast but heavy when cornering. The 86/frs/brz slow but fast when cornering. The Cayman S fast straight and cornering but it double the price.

    Btw I sold them so I could buy a GTR Nismo in Forza Motorsport 7.

  36. I need to know what people are smoking my work colleague has a cayman s 2009 I have a 370z Nismo he has 295 bhp I have 350 bhp I smash his face in in any gear and gap him easy and on the motorway even funnier .
    The only thing Porsche has got on many cars mine included is fit feel and finesse of a better product . But in no way would I want it over my nismo.

    1 nismo even regular 370 z not seen often
    2 the Nissan looks deadly in my opinion Porsche looks like a squashed vw beetle
    3 save yourself a fortune for similar performance
    4 it’s way cooler .

I forgot to mention I test drove an 86 the word I use is utter Gashhhhhhh yes turns well has nice balance but there is no occasion to it no power nothing .whats the point of a sports car if it gives zero thrills yes it turns well but that’s it u need more than a to b you need c and d as well meaning the whole thing .u need looks u need power u need balance u need presence the 86 has one string to its bow everything else is Walmart at best and inside is shocking plus it looks like an mx5 not exotic in any way whatsoever

  38. I'm sure there's merit to what Chris is saying when comparing stock vs stock but mods and reliability change everything.

    370z is my pick of the bunch as it can be tuned NA for 340whp with only minor mods. That keeps the VQ engine reliable and cheaper to repair than the Porsche. Even if the engine blows, they're cheap to replace as there's plenty of stock at the wreckers.

    To bring the power up on the 86, you need to go forced and boxer f20 become mighty unreliable after that.

    If you don't need more power, lucky you but I've driven all 3 and the 86 is just way too under powered for my liking.

  39. Watch Tiff from 5th gear and other previous race drivers give their say on the Nissan 370Z, I like Chris, but it seems to me that his love for the GT86 makes him blind and biased… As love often do.

  40. The 86 is a great first true sports car to own. Reliable, efficient, and fun. I sold mine for a 2016 Nismo Tech and don’t regret it but driving the Z makes me remember why I got the 86 in the first place. The 86 just feels so right and easy to get moving. Only place it ever lacked was a punch of torque when you floor it. But honestly if you don’t care about warranty, buying a good condition used 86 and throwing bolt ons and a supercharger and tune, Along with coils and a tire and wheel setup…you’ll have a better car than the Z will ever be.

  41. Checked out the Nnurburgring lap times recently and there is a street legal GTS86 that's sitting 6 seconds faster than the record set by a Tesla Model 3 Performance.

  42. This is NOT fair comparison because Cayman has PSS9 installed. I have best solution to get power, handling, reliability… all in ONE CAR. That is buy 370z first. Then put PSS10 or KW V3(even better) on it. Those top tier performance coilovers from Europe will increase steering feel, agility and damping(confidence) quite a bit. (That's why my old 2007 G35S's steering feel is much stronger than my another car 2017 GSF's and I still have a lot of fun on my old G) . However you do need to sacrifice some ride comfort like that Cayman in video.

  43. I'm looking to sell my 04 350z, can't decide to weather to get the GT86, or Cayman S next. I am excluding the 370 cos i already drove a 350 for 4 years and want to try something different.
    I can get a newer and less mileage 86 vs the Cayman, and although i think Cayman will be better car to drive and i can afford to get it no problem, but i do worry about it's cost of ownership over the years i'll own it vs the 86, especially being older / higher millage and the fact it's a Porshe.

  44. Could the 370zEd engine fit in the engine bay of a gt86? Because I’m in dilemma between both cars and I prefer the sound of the 370z then the brz, but prefer the reputation of a brz and its unuseful back seats.

  46. I had a 370 z with intake and exhaust upgrades, volks with grippy tires, and stiffer sway bars and coilovers. For some reason my new stock BRZ tS is putting more smiles on my face 😁😁😁 than the Z. I just feel more alive driving it. Yes the BRZ doesn’t have the punch the Z has on the straights but I still think the BRZ is more fun to drive!

  48. Yeah euro cars care only affordable in Europe. On side note with the gt86… even though theres a Toyota badge on it, hats really have to come off to the guys at Subaru who spent endless amounts of time and thought going into the suspension, balance, center of gravity, etc. They're the real heroes in my book.

    awful depreciation

  51. I really, really wanted a 370Z, I wanted to love it but after driving one I can't do it. They're a great car for people after that thing but it was more a GT than I expected. I sold my MX-5 NB and got an 86 and so far it's great. My Dad bought a Cayman GT4 and it's a phenomenal car, wonderful to drive on road and track – but it's in another league when it comes to running costs. I don't need P-Zeros or worry about scraping carbon fibre with the 86. Sure it's not perfect but it's a great little thing.
