Trailer Hitch Install: CURT 13127 on a Mazda CX-5

Welcome to the installation video of the CURT
13127 Class 3 trailer hitch on a 2016 Mazda CX-5. For a better view of the installation, we
will be using a lift. Like most of our installs, this vehicle does not need to be elevated
for the installatoion. We estimate this installation to take 20 to
40 minutes, depending on your level of expertise. These are the tools necessary for the install. To begin we will lower the exhaust. Before you do this, support the exhaust with a hanger or strap to prevent damage to the lowered system. Lower the exhaust by removing the four rubber isolators located here holding the exhaust in place. We recommend using a spray lubricant or soapy water mixture with a pry bar to ease the removal process. Next, fishwire the forward-most attachment point. To do , insert the coiled end of a fishwire into the attachment hole in the frame and out the access hole. Place a square hole spacer over this end and insert it into the frame of the vehicle. Thread a carriage bolt onto the coiled end and place it into the frame as well. Pull on the opposite end of the fishwire bringing the carriage bolt through the spacer and out through the attachment point. Leave the fishwire attached to the threaded bolt
for now to ensure that the hardware does not get lost in the frame. Next, reverse fishwire the rear-most attachment point. To reverse fishwire, thread a carriage bolt onto the threadded end of a fishwire and insert into the frame. Thread a square hole spacer over the other end of the fishwire, and then place
this into the frame rail as well. Pull on the end of the fishwire to pull the carriage bolt through the spacer and out through the frame. Again, leave all fishwires attached to the
bolts to ensure that the hardware doesn’t get lost in the frame. Repeat the fishwiring process on the other side of the vehicle. Raise the hitch into position feeding the fishwires through the mounting holes while raising the hitch up to the vehicle. Once the hitch is in position, remove the fishwires from the hardware and secure with the provided hex flange nuts. Torque all hardware to the exact value specified in supplied instruction sheet. Re-install the exhaust and remove the exhaust support. Nice shot! Right on target. This completes the installation of the CURT 13127 Class 3 trailer hitch on the 2016 Mazda CX-5.
