Want to buy a used car? Here’s how!

So you want to buy a second-hand car? Here’s what you need to do. First, download a copy of the vehicle transfer
form from the VicRoads website or pick one up from VicRoads to guide you through your
purchase. Next, let’s get organised. Before you buy the vehicle, make sure there
are no hidden surprises. Simply check the PPSR and VicRoads websites. Make sure you’ve got a Victorian licence. If not, you’ll need to provide evidence
of identity to get a VicRoads customer number. And, ask the seller for a roadworthy certificate
– make sure it’s not more than 30 days old or they’ll need to get a new one. Next step – buy the vehicle. Check the seller’s registration renewal
papers or ask to see the vehicle in their myVicRoads account so you can be sure it’s
theirs. And don’t forget to ask for a receipt. Then, before you drive away, complete and
sign the transfer form with the seller. Check that the information is correct, and
you’ve calculated the fees you have to pay via the VicRoads website. Finally, submit the transfer paperwork and
payment within 14 days of sale by visiting a VicRoads Customer Service Centre or by mail. You won’t be able to complete the transfer
without the completed transfer form, total fee payment, and Roadworthy certificate. Drive safely!
